SOS HELP! Baby ducklings and goslings dying

UPDATE—-

Everyone made it through the night, we even had monitors set up so we could keep tabs on them from our bedroom. We dropped fed girl goose as we were concerned with her not drinking anything (even when dipping her beak into the water). She allowed us and we got a few ccs of solution into her for the night.

We spoke to a specialist this morning who raises and breeds geese who told us the cedar chips definitely affected their feet and most definitely their respiratory systems. Cedar chips have oils that irritate young fowl skin and will cause the blistering we are seeing. Most importantly, and tragically, it can get into their airways and make breathing extremely difficult, and can cause death. I’m going to assume that’s what happened to the two boy and girl ducks and little girl goose. Thank you use Ephyra (I don’t know how to tag) for the suggestion to remove the cedar chips, this probably saved the remaining geese.

Little girl goose is drinking on her own today :celebrate Still working on getting her to eat eat, she had one little nibble of crumble.
Small victory for our household but I’ll take it.

The specialist suggested a small cool bath to dip their feet and rinse any further oils. She suggested something called Blu-Kote
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HHS6YS/?tag=backy-20 so we will try that. No more hydrogen peroxide now that the skin is healing and growing new skin.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions thus far, keep rooting for this trio! And I’ll keep you posted on their status. :fl

So glad to hear! Nice work being so diligent in their care! May I ask - does this specialist offer services online/through phone etc? If so, would you be able to forward me their contact info at some point? I had been looking for a service like this, as the only vet near me who will even see my geese is still not a specialist and warns they may not always be able to treat them
I hope your little girl goose pulls through, sounds like she is making some progress which is great! Will definitely be rooting for these precious babies!

Absolutely. She was very open to me contacting with questions comments or concerns, I’ll forward along her info.

Update 2
Sadly, our little girl goose passed today. She was very weak all day, minimally drinking, and not eating. We tried more dropper feeding with the electrolytes, as well as honey water, but she just never perked up. She had settled in for a nap and looked very serene, but sadly just didn’t wake up. :(

It has been an incredibly tough weekend. We are rooting for these boy geese to pull through (Tormund and Ernest), and thankfully they are eating and drinking, as well as walking, chirping, preening, and having normal poos. Keep our heart broken family in your thoughts over the next few days.

Oh I am so sorry. What a heartwrenching time. You did everything you could for her, for all of them, a lot more than many would do. Tormund and Ernest are in good hands. Sending healing thoughts to you and your family :hugs
