I have a 1 yr old Lavender Ameraucana hen that keeps getting sour crop. I treat it with monistat and it clears up but in a few weeks come back. She is fine otherwise and has laid eggs. I’ve treated them with safeguard goat wormer but not positive my dosage/treatment window was correct. So I ordered expensive Aquasole - thinking it was better. Now I understand it treats even fewer worms. I hate to cull her because decent Lav are impossible to find here. But o don’t want her to suffer. Anyone have any good suggestions for when I finish this Aquasole?

It sounds like the crop problem is unresolved.

You're treating with Miconazole, but it may be time to either switch to something like Nystatin, give a flush or even treat with Acidified Copper Sulfate to see if that makes a difference.

Aquasol© given as directed on the packaging will treat Roundworms Only. It's also designed to go in the Flock's Water based on weight and would be very hard to treat just one individual bird. https://merckusa.cvpservice.com/product/view/1047550

To treat just one hen, then follow the information given to you in Post#2 on your thread from earlier this year.

If you lose her, having a necropsy to find out what was going on with her would give you some answers.

Thank you. I am treating the whole flock (of 4 lol). But if I had really understood the directions and that’s my thought I would’ve probably chose something different. I do have the liquid goat warmer the safeguard I could try that again I guess. I’m not familiar with the nystatin but I will research that and see what I can come up with. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

Can I get nystatin without a prescription? We don’t have any chicken vets in my rule area. I see several different kinds for sale online liquid tablets powder. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Can you recommend any other chicken products I should order at the same time that are good to have on hand and not available at a local store like Tractor supply?
There are so many different products it would be hard to know what to have on hand and things do expire.

I usually only order a product when I need it, which thankfully is not that often.

Thank you. Using the nystatin cream that a friend had- Pearls crop issue cleared up. I treated for 7 days. She felt marvelous. Then yesterday I noticed she was a little off. I told my husband- I’m going to worm her again with the safeguard goat wormer- actually weigh her and not guesstimate. So I started that yesterday. Today her crop is so full. Not stinky yet but I’m sure that’s coming. However, my $60 jar of powdered nystatin just arrived in the mail- so why not try? Hen is 4# 4 oz - so 1/2 tsp 2x a day. Does that sound right?

Yes, that sounds about right.

I'm glad she was improving, hopefully this will get her over the next hurtle.

thank you. I hate to lose her she is so sweet and the best quality of the 3 Lavender Ameraucana's I was able to get locally. Its weird that she improves then relapses once she goes off the meds.
