well she has pooped and its half runny half formed! ive put a drop of biostop in the mash as it says int a digestive conditioner, a herbal remedy with astringent and antibacterial properties particularly useful during diarrhoea. so cant be bad! ive ordered some beryls friendly bacteria (probiotic) through a vets office but dont know when itll come. could have ordered online but with postage it worked out £15 for a sachet!!! postage was £7.50! thats madness! more for post than actual product!
going to look up the spice mix now for preventing the sour crop from returning, ill repost it here for easy access.
 
Recipe for the Spice Recipe​

Take a small jar and mix thoroughly the following (any available brand), which the base stock:

2 tsp. of garlic powder (not garlic salt)
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
1/2 tsp. of ginger

There are several ways that I will use to treat. If it is a single bird or just a couple I will mix up a small solution and either give orally or use a small crop tube and feed directly into the crop.

I will mix 1/8 teaspoon of the spice mix with 2cc of water. (Optional a pinch of Probiotics or Yogurt, and Brewers Yeast can be added if the baby appears pale or stressed)

Each chick is given a 1/2cc (.5cc) 2 times a day for 5-7 days.

If I am hand feeding a lot of babies I will mix ¼ teaspoon PER ½ cup of formula 2 times a day.

This combination of spices will help cut down on the yeast and bacteria by means of inhibiting overgrowth while boosting the immune system, and providing nutritional and supportive care to the digestive tract, body and organs. The spice remedy is designed more as a supportive treatment rather than for any antibacterial or antifungal properties. The dosage is too low to be truly effective as a stand alone antibiotic treatment.

The following is just a few of the constituents and benefits derived from each of the spices:

Garlic: (Allium Sativum) Garlic contains Vitamins A, B, C, and E, selenium. These vitamins also act as a stimuli to the immune system. Garlic supports the natural intestinal flora which helps to inhibit yeast and bacterial growth. It is the sulphur constituents, such as allicin and ajoene, that contribute to garlic's antibiotic properties. When combined with conventional medications it supports their actions, yet protects the liver from harmful side effects. This is especially beneficial when treating for respiratory and digestive infections.

Cinnamon: (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum) This herb/spice works in tandem with ginger and garlic. It acts as a strengthening and supportive herb for weak digestion. It also is a warming herb when the body feels chilled by stimulating circulation. It is mildly astringent which is beneficial when there is diarrhea or loose watery droppings, nausea, and vomiting.

Ginger: (Zingiber Officinale)In addition to the soothing effect of an upset crop (nausea) and digestive tract ginger also alleviates stress and has an invigorating effect to the body. Ginger has some antibiotic properties, and the antiseptic properties help to protect against infection. It helps alleviate gas in the crop, and also tends to lower fever.







Ive made up this mix and will start mixing it into mash today and add a pinch of the probiotic when it arrives :)​

Oh the mash is going to be tasty TODAY!!!! nummo. Lucky birdies. I'm so intrigued to see how it goes with this. I think that Birdie Bra too providing support to the pendulous crop has always made perfect sense to me.

Sad Thread I read on BYC where a lady found both of her Roosters with Sour crop too late. Both were lost. This is can be such a nasty condition obviously. She feels horrible, she blames bread.

It was sort of interesting that the vet that gave me Roger's medicine advised soaking it into bread for him. I told her I didn't really want to do that because I had a concern for sour crop. (what a pain I must have been) LOL. She said it's mostly young or small birds you need to worry about that for. I think I'll still pass on giving processed grains to my birds. IMHO.

thanks bogtown wow that stuffs great! think i might go for the garlic thou as it will be ongoing prevention. i read electrolites should only be given on the short term so id use that if i had it then do natural but as i dont i think ill try to get a probiotic.
her crop felt pretty small this morning still not empty but better than its been for a while.i was up all night ill and got to them to let them out about 8:00 so maybe it had longer to empty and that why. she looks bright and energetic ate well and slept with girls last night

still havnt seen her poop! but she must be as loads under roost some runny some normal.would just like to see her go so i know if she still has the runs. will keep eye on her. crop bras fab! seems to be doing a good job

not using that copper sulphate as you say could be mixed with some sort of cleanser!! no one answered my thread about it so i guess no one know either.

That copper sulphate is meant to be used for the treatment of hoof thrush in horses, so no, you would not want to use it. If you were going to use some, it would be labeled "for use in poultry/drinking water", and it needs to be "acidified copper sulphate".
 
Bogtown, I think it is DRY bread in a crop that causes the problems. I don't think bread that is wet with water or olive oil would be problematic. Just my 2 cents from things I have read and some of my experience. I do not do dry bread any more.

oh yeah that mash did smell really tasty! lol they went mad for it! unfortunatly the top hen pecked bombie out the way of getting any so i had to tip it in two bowls! they must have thought it was a good treat as she hasnt been getting in bombies way at feed time before!

casportpony- yeah im not gonna use it, when bought it said on their website 'for poultry' but when it came it said hoof wash! i contacted them and they said they send the orders to the manufactuer for dispatch and they must have made a mistake, so they resent the order free of charge but they then sent me the same thing again! thats what made me wonder if it might be the same stuff just different packaging. the company said they dont know! and sorry they cant help more! thats that, now i have two tubs of hoof wash and no hoofs!

never mind. going to stick with the spice mix now anyway, i like the natural ingredients and already have them in the cupboard plus it smells great. hoof wash will be on ebay later! lol

ive heard bread isnt good for chickens, every vet ive seen has said no bread and no dairy. i think if its the only way they will take meds its worth it but if you can get the meds in without, why bother. and i bet they dont think your a pain at all in fact the more they see you question stuff the more careful and acurate they will be with the advice they give you

I believe bread does not cause sour crop. It's not good if the chickens has sour crop because of the yeast in the bread. Small amounts should be fine for non crop issues. A fellow I meet lost his rooster feeding it bread, he choked to death. He was an arcana.

Shell: is she roosting on her own? Were she would be in a more weakened state, it might be harder to get up and down. Maybe temporarily lower the roost. Hope her crop is flat for you when you get up. Try not to prevent the diarrhea if its not to bad, especially if you have normal poops in between, her system maybe trying to pass something. That grit is fine as well. Don't know anything of the copper sulphate. Hear so much about it on here.

** I just learned a trick in giving meds in their beaks, you gently pull down on their wattles and the beaks open up very easily. I just tried it. :)

bombies crop still very big this morning! it has been emptying some over nights,not completely but some. today is a badday it seems :( she still has diarreah ive not seen her do a normal poop for a couple days. theres normal poop under roosts but cant be sure its hers! think we'll be in for a vet check up on monday. check her weight and see if he wants to repeat the endoscopy.
she is roosting on her own now. i locked them all in the coop last night but didnt put them on the roost when i went to check later they were all up there and sleeping :)
she feels a bit fluidy today,might try to empty crop some later.
