I feel horrible because I noticed that the water in the chick brooder was a little sour!!!!!!!! I am a horrible chick owner!!!!!!

I hope they don't die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They seem normal. Don't worry, I have learned my lesson. I will clean the water 10 times a day!! Does your water in your brooder get nasty??

Remember that outside the chicks and chickens oftentimes drink from mud puddles.

Are you having a problem with them getting a lot of bedding it it? If so, elevate it on a block of wood, such as a 2" x 4".

Right now my chicks are only a few days old and don't drink all of the water in their waterer during a day. I am only changing it once a day. I know from experience last year that in a week or two they will empty it much quicker. Then I will change it 2 or 3 times a day. By the time they are about 3 weeks old I think I will switch to a larger.

my chicks scratch shavings into their water every hour and I can't put it on a brick yet because they are only a few days ond!

I clean out the waterer once a day, almost all wood chips they're kicked in there while scratching. I clean the waterer when I replace the water which has been every other day, but will soon be every day as they get larger and there water demands go up.

Here's a photo of them with their waterer, purchased at Tractor Supply, it's a one gallon unit which they began to use right away. I supplemented that with an open dish for a few days, but took that away when it was obvious that all were reaching the water in the waterer fine. The good thing about this particular model is that they don't have enough room to roost on it, so it's hard for them to crap in their water.

Thats actually the same waterer I have. I have a seven pounds feeder that looks similar to my waterer also.
