I would recommend either the class or find an experienced beekeeper to mentor you. Even after taking the classes, we recommend that new beekeeper find a mentor.
Are you in Lancaster? I'm not sure if there is a club in your area but if there is, that is a great source of information. Contact you Clemson Ext. office. They should know where the closest club is. It would be worth while to attend even if it is a long drive.

Also there are a lot of good books available.

anyone know how much duramycin-10 should i mix to a gallon of water? for a smaller rooster?

It is 1-2 teaspoons a gallon...I would go 1 for a smaller Roo(bantam) but I believe most do 2 tsp day one and 1 for next 4-6 days...What are you treating?

Wheeeew!! I finally caught up on all the posts.

Lauren the pics are great. Hope you are doing better today.
I had so much fun and learned a lot at Newnan. Kimberly is a walking talking encyclopedia of silkie info. Nicole is cute as a button and as smart as her mama.

I absolutely drooled over all the great silkies. Tried to buy a couple of the buffs in the show but no luck.
I did get eggs from Mary Robbins.

8 of them are buffs.

We had to make an unplanned trip to Iva today (at least for me). My dh came back by our property from a fishing trip Fri. He did not tell me until after my Newnan trip because he did not want to interfere with me enjoying my trip. (He can be a sweetheart at times

)
Someone had made a 4 wheeler track on our little field and even had a chair set up for a spectator.

Someone had also cut 3 trees and taken the wood.

We went down and posted the property. The county deputy came out and made a report and said they would start checking the property. My brother-in-law did have his camper down there but brought it home in the late summer. I guess someone decided to use the property for their own enjoyment.

I have several blue over blue orp eggs in the incubator. Almost all of the black over splash and black were not fertile so I pulled them out of the bator. The blacks are half english---hugh, and fluffy. I am going to have to do some major trimming of butt feathers. I already lightly trimmed a month ago. I know he is trying.

I also pulled out all the white silkie eggs that I was checking for fertility. Not a one was developing. Darn!!!! I will do a little trimming there too.

it seems to be a respitory infection, nose was gooey, eyes was gooey and was running around blind. and i think his lil head was swollen.
