No feathered feet and legs...I think it is a he but was told it is very hard to tell...one guy said hold a mirror up and if he dances and coo's its a he!

You have american fantails then, that is what I have. Indian fantails have feathered feet. I have no idea how to tell gender, it's very hard. I lucked out and got a pair to start with and they have raised me a few beautiful babies. I'm hoping to build them a proper pigeon coop this summer. I love to hear the coos they make. But I'd really like to have them where I can watch them fly a bit. They are truely beautiful birds.

Wheeeew!! I finally caught up on all the posts.

Lauren the pics are great. Hope you are doing better today.
I had so much fun and learned a lot at Newnan. Kimberly is a walking talking encyclopedia of silkie info. Nicole is cute as a button and as smart as her mama.

I absolutely drooled over all the great silkies. Tried to buy a couple of the buffs in the show but no luck.
I did get eggs from Mary Robbins.

8 of them are buffs.

We had to make an unplanned trip to Iva today (at least for me). My dh came back by our property from a fishing trip Fri. He did not tell me until after my Newnan trip because he did not want to interfere with me enjoying my trip. (He can be a sweetheart at times

Someone had made a 4 wheeler track on our little field and even had a chair set up for a spectator.

Someone had also cut 3 trees and taken the wood.

We went down and posted the property. The county deputy came out and made a report and said they would start checking the property. My brother-in-law did have his camper down there but brought it home in the late summer. I guess someone decided to use the property for their own enjoyment.

I have several blue over blue orp eggs in the incubator. Almost all of the black over splash and black were not fertile so I pulled them out of the bator. The blacks are half english---hugh, and fluffy. I am going to have to do some major trimming of butt feathers. I already lightly trimmed a month ago. I know he is trying.

I also pulled out all the white silkie eggs that I was checking for fertility. Not a one was developing. Darn!!!! I will do a little trimming there too.

Mary I feel your pain with the trespassing. We just acquired ourselves a nice new deer stand - found it up in a tree on our property (which is posted "no trespassing, no hunting). Our property is even signed with the DNR so anyone caught here will be prosecuted to the fullest and we don't even have to be involved. Hasn't made much difference yet though, we have hunters, 4 wheelers, dirt bikes etc. Makes me so mad.

Heidi...great meeting you - so sorry about your peacock!

Samantha - hope to talk to you next time I see you. We may have to meet for lunch somewhere one week and chit chat :)

Lauren - how are you feeling now?

Mary - we love ya! Nicole was so tickled that you were able to pick out winners by looking yesterday before the judging! I have to keep telling her not to talk loud about people's birds!

Everyone else - If I missed you on FB and have not told you........was great meeting you.

Susanne.......with such a gorgeous family, and beautiful farm, please take some Farm Easter Pics! I hope we have nice Easter weather !!

Whew! I'm tired! The show was fun but it was 5 hours each way. Colin got to see his white crested black polish. There were only two large ones being shown and one was a boy who was posing for pictures. They are hilarious looking birds. He really wanted to buy some yesterday but the only ones for sale for bantams and we've already ordered some standard size chicks. It's fun to see him so excited. He just came in and got my Standard of Perfection and he's studying it. I did pick up 11 silkies from Bobbi Porto that I had ordered a month ago but other than that, I can home empty handed.

It was really cool to see all the birds and learn about judging. I had never seen anyone's birds but mine so it was great to see the Marans and Ameraucanas and of course the Silkies! I should have shown my Ameraucanas. There were only 5. I was really surprised. And only one lavender and mine are much nicer. Got to meet a lot of the people on here which is always fun! I missed Heidi though. I had random people coming up to me and saying "Aren't you Susanne, the new SC silkie rep?" That was funny. And when I went up to a lady selling silkies and introduced myself to which she replied, "I know. I've been to your farm. That's where I got my silkies." Oops!
gig.gif
Apparently I gave her a good start because she had some nice ones!

Sorry to hear about all the dead birds. I went out this morning to check on my new little silkies and two were out in the rain, just sitting there soaked and shivering. I stuck them in with the babies. I need to go check.

My new coops are for Colin's polish, my cream legbars who will need space soon, the turkeys I've ordered, my gray silkies and my columbian silkies. And... something else. Can't think of it. I'm still working on getting the Jubilee's but since we're building the house, Cole thinks I need to wait.
he.gif
Which maybe I should do because I have picked out some expensive lighting from Restoration Hardware for the house and I really need to talk him into those too!

House lights first! LOL! Then coops & coop lights. LOL!

I have forgotten what all you named for coops :)

Not too much! Just a little knowledge - Got it the hard way by starting with pet quality and a couple of breeder quality birds ... and....trial and error. And comparing everyone's birds. And reading on the ASBC the past 7 months.
Nicole was quiet! I was shocked!

I cannot promise she will always be that way!

Sorry about the trespassers. Hope it won't happen again!

They were not out when the attack happened. I keep them in when i am not at home because i don't live in that great of a neighborhood and in the city. I don't want them dognapped for breeding(they are spayed)/dog fighting. they were going crAzy in the house though and that is what alerted my roommate. They do a very good job though and Rebel just loves to herd those hens back into their coops.

Looks like a great Plan D!

Beautiful pups! Were they out when the attack happened? Looks like they're doing a good job of guarding there.
