Maybe we should try all the small eggs on our next hatching.

and see what we get. A few other things like ACV and a very high protein food.

Could that possibly be right? I'm trying to figure out the logic behind that. It would be great if it were true!

Some people say they can sex by the size of the eggs.

It's not the size, it's the color...

The onse with invisible eggs are boys, all other colors were laid by girls.

I just got a question from a customer picking up hatching eggs and it was a first for me! She looked at her eggs and said in a very serious voice, "Now which ones of these will be girls and which will be boys?" Thank goodness I didn't laugh. It was close though! How nice would that be to just look at the egg and now the sex! It would also be great to be able to tell which ones will hatch.

I have a friend who did an experiment on about 100 eggs. He marked the "rounder" eggs as hens and the more "oval" shaped eggs as roos. It was pretty accurate. I also know someone who uses the needle and thread method (like you would on a pregnant womant to see if she's having a boy or girl). He does this over the eggs and only hatches the "hens". It's pretty accurate for him too. I've tried it once with a batch of eggs and only incubated the "girls". I had a couple of roos show up but the majority of the hatch was hens....and that is VERY unusual for me. The thing is when I'm hatching these special breeds, I don't want to toss the eggs that show rooster just in case it's wrong. We still need some roos. I'm crazy, I love my roosters.

OK SOME QUESTIONS:
1. should the humidity in the bator at day 18 be around 60-70ish???
2.There is a wire grid in the bottom with tiny openings, should I put something down over the metal grid?
3.How long do I leave the chicks in the bator before I remove them and put them in the brooder?
4.Ok when you LOCKDOWN does that mean that you stop opening and stop turning the eggs??

Wednesday is lockdown and Saturday is hatch...You know i run a tight schedule so I know the chicks will hatch at exactly 12 o'clock noon. All at once.. hahahaha!!!!

Hopefully out of the 12 I will be excited if only a few hatch. Just so I can say I hatched some eggs!!!! If all 12 Hatch I will freak out and will be dropping some off at Your House hahaa!!!!!

I run mine around 60% on lockdown...and yes that means no more turning and opening!! The chicks should stay in the bator until dry and fluffy...or very close to it. I dont put anything over my wire and the last couple hatches I have used some of those disposable/washable plastic food bowls( like tupperware , heafty,etc...) that fits just under my elements so they dont touch(some I cut down and those big ice cream tubs work also cut down) with paper towel in the bottom...Keeps my bator clean!! I am still new to this though so hopefully everyone else will have some tips also...I may learn something too!!! GOOD LUCK HATCHING...IT IS ADDICTING!!

That humidity may b a tad too much. I say this bc when the chicks start to pip/hatch the humidity will increase on its own. See what others suggest. Go to the dollar tree and but the shelf liner stuff. It's a rubber griff. Good to help keep clean and chicks can grip /stand better with it. Leave chicks in it till they dry!!! When chicks hatch they are good for a little while without food/water. Lockdown can mean different things for others....usually means the time you stop turning, move from one incubator to another (some ppl hatch in one and incubate in another). Did I miss anything?
