This batch was set on a sunday so I don't expect to see action until tomorrow...I am hatching sizzles and frizzles mostly from shipped eggs...my hatch of milles and selfs last weekend was great!! I am sooo happy to hear they are doing so well! You are going to have a great first hatch!

all the lil eggs you gave seem to be pipping one mille fluer is hatched, how did your hatch go?

Trixie, the picture is adorable. Isnt it a great feeling when they come running to you. As for puttng them out without the heat lamp. Keep in mind Chickens, need 95* the first week and then you decrease it by 5* per week. SO with our nights still in the 50's* it really depends on the age. We still have th eheat lamp on our 4 week olds in the house. If they were outside I wouldnt have the lamp on unless it wasnt warm. So If we put them in the chicken house I would have the heat lamp on until they were old enough for the 50* weather. SO Around 8 weeks old. before I took the lamp away as long as it was decent.

Now keep in mind, we are new to this still, but this is what we read when researching.

Thanks for popping in. Same to you Sam!

I have some 8 - 10 week olds outside in a nice cozy brooder box and they still get a heat lamp at night. But I baby my babies. Can't stand the thought of them being cold. I've got some 3 month olds that I've moved outside into a grower pen, moved from the greenhouse, and I'm worried about them now as it's raining. The grower pen is completely enclosed except for one end but still if they don't get up into the nest box or on a roost the ground will be wet and they might catch a chill.

It's been really busy around the farm, longer days and warm temps mean it's time to get some work done! I wanted to share some good news, this week I got my first turkey eggs (3 so far) and my first guinea eggs. I think spring has sprung. Also wanted to share an experiment that I've been doing with shipped eggs. I received 2 boxes of eggs at the same time and I candled them to check the air sacs. The one box (my Dorking eggs) were really in bad shape with the majority of the eggs having floating air sacs. I also had 15 BLRW eggs that didn't look too bad, only a few showing damaged air sacs. So I put the worst eggs, the Dorkings, on my hatcher tray for the first week and did not turn them at all. The BLRW eggs went into the egg turners. At 7 days I candled them and 10 of the 15 Dorking eggs had veins! These were the worst eggs and 2/3 of them are growing. I checked my BLRW eggs and they didn't look so good, only 5 eggs out of 15 had veins. From now on, any shipped eggs that I receive will go without any turning for the first week. I now have the Dorking eggs in the turner and they seem to be growing well. I'll let you know if I have a good hatch from them. Just wanted to share that bit of information. Here's a pic of my turkey egg - isn't it beautiful!

i meant the batch you had set when we was there, and if you have frizzles id like to get some!

Awesome info JOy, what a great way to test the no turn method. We have been getting Turkey eggs for a while now and they finally are fertile, so we have 2 in the incubator, they have 2 more weeks for lock down, but they are viable at this point. NOw if we can get them to actually hatch. Our Guineas are molting like crazy, and so far we have not had any eggs this year, duno maybe soon.

We will be setting 5 turkey eggs tonight along with 5 bantam eggs.

Have a wonderful Saturday! Off to the Npip class.

LOL...I had 3 diffent dates of batches running and I set late sunday after you were here!! I run a weekly cycle!! I will not be keeping all the frizzles so I will be sure you get some...can even deliver to Chickenstock.

That is the best way to do shipped eggs, Joy. I seldom turn my eggs the first week after I get them. I also never let them"rest".
Funny thing is, I have floating air sacs when I get eggs to incubate from folks that are local. Those hatch, too, though.

That turkey egg is beautiful. I hope I see some next year from my turkeys. Kris and Robert are so kind to share with me!

A new bator! How eggciting!!! And eggs to put in it!

I have some of Debra's duck eggs due to hatch in the next day or so. That will be neat. Then I have 30 of my chick eggs due to hatch 2 days after that and my first lavender Muscovy eggs due to hatch. Of the several dz I set from that pair only one was clear. How exciting for me.

Well, back out to sell more eggs. Whew!
