South Carolina

Good Morning. My chicks will be 7 weeks on Monday. I am amazed at how quickly they have grown and how beautiful they are. I have a BLRW and she is the sweetest bird. Is this typical temperament for a BLRW? If so I would really like a few more. Does anyone have recommendations for local breeders in the state? I would rather drive(2-3 hr drive is fine) to pick them up then have them shipped. Thanks for the help!

I will have BLRW, that are from Westknoll Amy's eggs, at the Laurens Tractor supply tomorrow. I beleive we have 1 beautiful pullet, and 2 splash roos. We also ended up with a Black laced cockeral.

Amy, I dont blame you for working on your pens, wish you could have come tomorrow.

Lauren, we might come to Chicken Stock next weekend, alot depends on what we get done this weekend.

So, the coop is completely finished and the girls are out there for the first time tonight. I really hope they are ready to be out there. They are 4 weeks old today and pretty much fully feathered. Is it too early for them to go out? I out the heat lamp out there so they have somewhere to get warm if they happen to get cold. I have to say they seem a lot happier out there. They had completely outgrown the brooder- main reason they are out of the house now.

Somehow my sweet SLW hurt her foot right after I put her outside. Not sure if it happened as I was carrying them in a tote out back or when they started flapping and running all into each other. She can put some weight on it, and doesn't seem to be in too much discomfort. I picked her up and checked her out and nothing appears to be broken. I guess I'll just have to keep a close eye on her for the next few days.

I sure hope I can sleep tonight. I won't miss cleaning the brooder every night, but I really do miss the little peeps coming from the corner.

Laurens, SC...First ever swap/show-off for local poultry/fowl and us human peeps!!! I will be there with various ages of Ameraucana/EE mix cockerel/pullets and a few Silver-Grey Dorking Roosters! Some hatching eggs too and a couple Game roo/cockerels that are really pretty! I am looking forward to chatting with everyone from here and meeting some I haven't met yet! I hope we have a great turn out! I know Samantha of JSDJFARM (www.jsdjfarm.com) has worked very hard along with Laurens, SC TSC to put this together for all of us on BYC and everyone within our reach!

THANKS TO BOTH SAM AND OUR LOCAL TSC AND TO BYC for bringing us all together!!!

What are you guys out there bringing?

If you are looking there will be a great selection and variety! Come join the fun and hang out with some cool folks!!!

Don't forget the bake sale benefiting a local animal charity! Bring baked goods or buy some yummy treats!

I, for one, am so eggcited!!!

Chicks/Chickens are really amazing at how they can bounce back! I hope she will be OK and she will probably be leading the others tomorrow! Sleep well! I know you have taken the best care for them and of them! They are truly amazing animals that will constantly give you giggles and, at times, worries... BTW...WELCOME HERE!!!
