someone said you have silkies. I am in Ware Shoals and would love to look at what you have. Do you have the showgirls too? I have them and white silkies but am finding I need more. Would you consider letting me come see what you have?

Buster, I have silkies. Not sure what I have for sale at the moment but you're welcome to come look anytime!

Someone please tell me there is a local chapter of Birds Anonymous.. My hubby so need to go.. Our farm is growing like wildfire. I thought we had agreed that we wouldn't buy anymore birds for awhile, but today we get 2 ducks.. well in his defense the girls were wanting ducks. So now we have 2 white pecking ducks added to our beautiful farm. If we keep this up we're gonna run out of room :( pouts.. that would be a sad day for sure.. just sayin'

Well we had a rather startling surprise awaiting us at the coop yesterday. DH walked out to check on the chickens and found a 5 foot snake skin sitting beside our coop. This really concerns me for 2 reasons: 1 being that there is at least a 5 foot snake running around my yard (Ick.. I really dislike snakes) and 2: I'm worried about my chickens safety. The hens are not laying as of yet (too young) but I would hate to think that snake would be able to get ahold of one of my chickens. Has anybody else had this problem? What can I do to keep that sneaky snake out of my coop and away from my chickens? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Dee, I beleive if you look back on these pages you will find a post from Westknollamy, she said put sulfer around the coop. But be sure I am right and look back, you may be able to do a search on amy and find it faster

do you have any babies or young pilots, hens, roos?
Re: orpingtons
I have some young ones 6-7 weeks old that I am pretty sure of the sex. I am never a 100% sure until they start laying or crowing. LOL I will look tomorrow when I pick out what I am taking to Chickenstock. I also have lots!!!! of babies. I should have more hatching next week.

LOL...its an addiction that will get worse with time...I have my first ducks in the incubator...practicing for getting my call duck eggs!!!

I have been looking for good buffs for a while. Not easy to find.
Surely if I get a good hatch rate, I will get a few SQ or at least a few BQ. Hopefully I will not end up with all boys.

You just never know. I would have bought adult birds, but could not find what I wanted.

It really is. I never would have thought it could be so addicting. Once our first batch was out of the brooder I almost felt like I was suffering from empty nest syndrome (no pun intended).. I just missed hearing the little babies peeps and watching them. Even my youngest daughter would walk over to the empty brooder and say "chick chick".. Thats about the time we went to the Chicken swap LOL.. and ended up bringing some babies home.. I'm really hoping you're not right about it getting worse though. I feel like if we keep on we're going to end up running out of room before we want to stop adding birds.. I hope it doesn't get that bad though.. We only live on about an acre and a half and it wouldn't take very long to fill all of that land up with coops and such. I can't deny it though those little webbed feet and duck bills are just too adorable. Ever since my oldest daughter spied the ducks when TSC were having their "chick days" she's been begging us to get some ducks. I've been hesitant because we live across the road from lake greenwood. I fear the ducks will go to the lake and disappear with the resident ducks that live on the lake and our money that we spent will be gone. I guess we'll find out for sure what is going to happen when they get older and go outside. Thankfully, I've done some research and I've seen that the pekin duck doesn't fly. So I guess that's a plus. Anyways sorry for the book!

You can fit alot on an acre!! I am lucky to have right at 9 acres!! I fell in love with call ducks at the Newnan show and have eggs on order for Buffs!! They are teeny lil duckies!! We are even planning on putting in a huge pond for them in a big enclosed outdoor duck garden!!
