Wow! What incredible habitats! I am new on here and located in Chapin, SC...just outside of Columbia on the Newberry side. I have loved learning so much about our new babies. My boys talked my hubby and I into 7 baby chicks in March so we are learning as we go. Turns out we think we have four boys and only three girls. So, we are trying to figure out what to do with our extra boys. We definitely want to keep our EE roo (the other 3 are barred rocks). Any suggestions for finding them new homes? I have asked a couple local chicken farms around here and one doesn't want them. The other said they'd take my boys to the flea market...I just ant them to have good homes. My boys (8 and 2 1/2 years old) have already loved having the chickens! I definitely see a long future here! :)

Welcome! I am not far from you either... In the Forest Acres area of Columbia! Did you try Rush Lane Poultyy in Camden? They might take the Roos. I am ordering 3 barred rock pullets tomorrow and will probably get them delivered mid-June or so. Very excited and very new at chickens! Where did you get your babies from? Nice to have a fellow Midlanders here!

Hey that is me in the top photo--I was there for such a short time but somehow ended up in the pictures?? lol! This is probably about the time I was telling Sam that we were about the same age! Thanks for sharing Amy!
So we had a total blast at Samantha's last Saturday!

So much fun and such great food and everyone was so great to meet! I loved seeing Kris, Robert, Patsy, Nikki and any others I may have forgotten to mention. AND I loved meeting all you new folks! Sam Bam is the BEST hostess! I sent her the photos I took but thought I would add this one to show you all that we had the Hostess with the Mostest!

I believe that is Avonshire in the photo with them?

The kids had a blast!

I am glad everyone enjoyed my brownies. They were from a box but I did use those wonderful duck eggs fresh from the nest that morning (have to as I sell out so quickly every day I don't have left overs!)

There are many other photos but I think Sam is going to post some on her FB page. If not, I can share more as I think I have some of everyone. Ha, ha, except me.

Wow, stay away for a few days and things really happen around here! I love all you SC bycers! Sam - looks like y'all had an awesome party. Sure wish I could have made it. Congrats on all the new little chickies hatching. The pics are so cute. I could just sit and look at chick pics all day. But I do have to share a major disappointment that I had today. Rebecca (Just reebok) came over to pick up the two Barred Rock hens I had for sale and, as I was giving her the tour, one of my chickens crowed. Now that is not too unusual, except that it was my ohhh sooo cute little Frizzle pullet crowing. Yeah, the one I brought to the Laurens swap and show? She is a he. And she was going to be my little broody hen. Back to the drawing board, I guess. Anyone got an extra LF Cochin or Silky pullet that needs a new home? And, some good news - I finally found a little roo to replace little Blue that I lost a week ago. Patsy29932 has a little Ameraucana roo she is letting me have and is even willing to keep it a couple of weeks until he is old enough to go outside. We are getting ready to move to our new property and our brooder setup is already packed up. I just thought that was too nice that she would hold on to him until he's ready to be an outside chickie. Thanks Patsy! That's all for now. Keep those chick pics coming - I love looking at them. Also the great pics of your coops - what a creative bunch we have here. Susan

Gosh, I am so sorry I missed all the fun at Sam's. I registered for a workshop before I realized that it was the same day. I am planning to start another project this fall. As if I don't have enough to do. I am going to try raising mushrooms as another farm project. The workshop was a good one.

Lauren hope the two babies have adopted your single little one as family.

Man if I did not have an incubator full, I would do it! lol! I even considered for a heartbeat borrowing or buying a second bator but I have to show SOME restraint!!!

Ok here is my catch up post!!

Yancy...great pics as always and the garden pics on FB...WOW...I need you to be my new BFF so bad at the wasteland here!!

Amy...the pics are great...I will be posting some here and FB when I slow down today!

Sunny! Welcome...I am on the bottom of Lake Greenwood so we are not too far apart...Roos will be an issue you have to learn to handle if you hatch...only you can decide if you can put them to use as a food source...some folks sell with no questions asked because roos are hard to rehome... =(

Thanks Everyone for the great day...my lil farm is always open !!

Lauren...do not feel bad...I am sure we will be arranging something soon...I think we should all take turns hosting so we can peek at each others birds and learn sooo much!

Dee... congrats on the chick...fingers are still crossed but I have more eggs when you are ready!!

If I missed you I will catch up later...so many folks yakking today!! HUGZ EVERYONE!!
Always Here to talk chickens and plants. I had plants and yard stuff way before chickens...but since I've added chickens I have BIGGER Plants(unless they eat them first) lol

Wow I go visiting for a day and I miss so much.. This sure is a fast paced forum LOL.. So Pip Squeak is our only hatch from our first attempt at hatching. He is a super duper cutie pie :) He's been rolling and bobbing all around the incubator and playing bowling with the other eggs (4 left).. When I got home tonight I checked on pip squeak then decided to try candling the remainder eggs.. Nothing :( We had a couple with no air sac (which they had before lockdown).. I'm starting to think our temperature spike killed our hatch ratio :(.. But we're super proud to have our lone "Pip Squeak" joining us. I haven't taken any more pics yet (was going to wait until he fluffed up).. How long is it until they are able to stand for themselves? I worry about moving him from the bator with him not walking (unable to get to the water/food source.. Maybe I'm just being a first time chick mommy (worry wart LOL).. Anybody have any wonderful knowledge they wanna share here :) Thanks in advance...

Momd29 just wondering(if I missed it) what kind of bator do you have? ..and I leave mine in the bator for 24 hrs but if its a big hatch it takes a while for them to dry.

Nikki, I am sending off for our NPIP testing supplies and wing bands tomorrow. We should have plenty to share when you are ready to go through testing.

the cost per test and wing band is minimal. you probably received the updated price list too. I ordered enough for 200 tests and pliers to do wing bands.
