Thank you all for your overwhelming support.. This was very hard for us, but I love my chickens way too much so I will not give up on hatching. I realize that this stuff kinda goes with the territory of raising chickens. From time to time (even though we don't always expect it) we may lose chickens (even the smallest ones).. Thankfully my oldest daughter took it a lot better than I did last night. She came to me and said "Well Mama, at least we got to see him hatch. We'll hatch some more soon and they'll be okay mama." It was so sweet that she was comforting me last night.
Awww...that is so sweet! She is precious! All your girls are precious! I hate hearing about li'l Pip Sqeak...best thing is just move forward! Do not quit! Try, try again! LOL...Set some more and I feel you will have much better success this time!

I am doing such a happy dance! Just ordered my 3 Rock girls from MPC and they will be here the week of the 11th! Wahhhoooooooo! I drew out the designs for the coop -16 sq.feet in the coop and 40'sq. Feet in the run. Should that be enough for my hens? I can't wait to hit Tractor supply and home depot this weekend! Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!

Does it get any easier the more you deal with it? I am nervous about this hatch. I get so emotionally involved. When I helped one of my eggs last time and it was so sick I had to put it down I was devastated. It was so hard. I am vowing not to help this time BUT you know how that goes. It does break my heart to hear all the sadness and troubles that everyone is having. I know Sam had a rough week last week too. I keep telling myself that if something happens to the chicks then I can just hatch some more but I get so attached. Hugs to everyone.
I too have "helped" with bad results! Heartbreaking indeed! I don't know if the heartbreak gets better...but with practice...hatches do get better! A good hatch does a lot to sooth the soul!

I have the small Little giant bator.. he was the only one who hatched..
Sorry about the little chick. I have the StillAir LittleGiant I've had great success with it, But I had to find the right spot in my house for it to work properly. I put it in the sparebedroom that is North facing the temp in the room doesn't jump around and if it does it's slowly. I also found that I couldn't run the ceiling fan in this room that made the temp jump around.(Somebody on BYC had to keep theirs in a closet for stable temps) So you may have to move it around til you get a more stable temp and I just put a little water in the bator and keep it about 30%humidity.
And DON'T get discouraged and try again.

OK here are pics of our tractor coop that is maybe going to be way too big to actually move. My dh is still under the impression that it will be movable though!!

and my little chicks ... any guesses on the barred rock or blrw(pullet or roo?)
