Two people, so far, have gotten in touch with me about the the gravity waterer that I had posted yesterday. So, I've decided to post the details here, that way everyone will have the information needed to build one.

Materials Needed:

1/2" PVC
1/2" PVC fittings
PVC Glue and Primer
Flexible supply line to fill valve
Flexible gravity fed line
Toilet Fill Valve
5 Gallon See-Through Bucket
5 Gallon Bucket Lid
Watering Cups

First, start by drilling two holes in the bottom of the 5 gallon bucket. One for the fill valve and one for a 1/2" Male adapter. Install both into the the bucket. I put some epoxy around the 1/2" male adapter to keep it from leaking. The fill valve should be fine.

Next, I made the bracket for the bucket. This was accomplished with the use of my router and a flush trim bit. Just secured the plywood on the top of the bucket and router out around the inside of the bucket.

Next, is time to start the plumbing. The line connected to the toilet fill valve is the line that you tie into the house or maybe even a outside spigot(if you have one near by). The line connected to the 1/2" male adapter is the gravity fed line down to the watering cups. Oh, don't forget a vent hole up as high on the bucket as you can get it, without interfering with the lid.

From here on out the plumbing is going to depend on your coop and where you want/need the cups. Hopes this helps you out. If you have any other questions just ask. I'll help you out the best I can. I'm hurrying out the door for Awanas. Let me know if I forgot something.

Hello baby!!

I went to gather eggs and check on our broody hen and found a wonderful surprise. Our first Maran chick had hatched. I was so excited to text Lou Ann a picture at work. My husband was with me and waiting in the car and wondered why it was taking so long for me to gather a couple of eggs! Now, we just have to figure a way to keep the other hens away from mamma and the hatching babies until they have all hatched. She will then be moved to her own little run where no one will bother her. I just don't want to scare her off the nest and interrupt the hatching process by doing it now. If you look really close, you will see a pip in the egg behind the baby!
Ive got a hen setting now and i think she should be done any day now, ? not sure how many days she should sit? she chose a nest up high in a dog house Im worried aobut not moving the whole dog house nest to a brooder onthe ground in case they start hatching I dont want them to fall out.. or should I jus tsomehow put a wire door on the box so she cant get out either for teh rest of the week? first time chicky granny... Ain't they just the cutest things.
I sleep better with the chick noises in the house.

Very nice use of common materials. Is your coop permanently sited? Id like to do somethin glike this for a mobile tractor type shelter.

Awwww! You all are going to have the best weekend with these cuties! I hope they all hatch out to be girls but with those big feet I think this is a boy.
Let me know the total that hatches out. I get a 99% hatch rate here. In my bator and under hens.

We want to see more pix! Make sure you all snap more, especially this weekend when she comes off the nest with them and is showing them how to eat. So adorable!
This will be the best therapy for Lou Ann! I know it will ease the loss of her hubby and her son going back home.

You will see so many pictures, you will be sick of them! Maybe not, after all they ARE chicken pictures! If this is a rooster, it's okay. With the first hatch, anything is good. We will just deal with it when the time comes. Tomorrow will be such a long day at work...
