The NPIP class is a great learning experience. Even if you are not interested in getting NPIP certified, it is worth the time and money for all that you will learn.

I have taking it in sept. 2010. before i got chickens. It was very helpful and glad i took it before i got chickens and hatching eggs.I read about that workshop when I was looking up who handles necropsies in this state. Have you or someone you know taken it? It sounds really interesting.

Long time since I posted. Yes we took this class and all I can say is it is worth taking the class. You will learn so much about chicken rearing, diseases, and biosecurity, including a necropsey of a chicken. The class is limited, so if you are able to attend, sign up now. You will not be disappointed.I read about that workshop when I was looking up who handles necropsies in this state. Have you or someone you know taken it? It sounds really interesting.
What did you catch the racoon with/in? I have one tormenting me and my chickens! It has gotten 5 so far and evades my trap like the plague! (baited with canned cat food)
I didn't realize raccoons got so big! What did you use to catch the cats & raccoon? I'm wanting to actually bring the feral tomcat from out old house here. And possible catch the raccoon that wiped out my previous hens.
And shouldn't a food place have some kind of rules about waste disposal that include not drawing vermin/nuisance creatures?

Not sure if anyone has answered this as this was as far as I read so far today.
Back in April there were quite a few on here that took the NPIP class at Clemson. Nikkie (CarolinaChickenKeeper), Kris and Robert (KrisH), Kimberly (Chickychickybaby) and some others I can't think of right now.
They really enjoyed it, learned a lot and are helping ones like Samantha (dixiebeast) and I understand more about it. We also are glad to have them around to help with getting us ready for the shows this fall since birds have to be tested to be shown.
Kimberly showed me the huge book that came with the class and all the extra things they handed out. as I understand it, it is well worth the money to take the class.
Now I just wish we could get one of those candling classes here in SC so I can see how much I don't know!
