South Carolina

Well Sam my first reaction was excitement for you. I think you should go on the interview. If they offer uou a job then you have something to think about but at least then you will know the conditions. It would be hard though since the chickens are such a fun thing for you but you also really enjoy the kids too. Hugs but I am just glad you have this as a "problem"!

Quote: This is a gorgeous bird and I wonder what I would get crossing this to my Golden Cuckoo Marans hen? I think to make her that someone used buff Orps in the breeding program way back.

See! I thought I could spot Orp and 'Dotte in that bird.

Yes, I would love to have him and will do my best to see about how to get him. You are waaaaaay down in Laurens and I am waaaay up here. We will have to see how we can set this meet up.

Ok Amy but I dont need to know about the roos that are getting relocated!! I do think it is buff orp but I forget what it is crossed with. Let me know if you are serious otherwise I will ship him off to roo camp at our friend's house!

LOL These were roos bred for the freezer and one that Kris and Robert did not need or want but hatched from my eggs. I had them free ranging but now they are penned for a short time to get ready to feed my family. My extra Marans roos are totally delicious and we have some extra male ducks that need to go, too.

Kris, were you and Robert wanting to come watch when we do the roos and ducks? I thought I remembered you saying that and forgot to ask the other day when we were on the phone.

Check out this Pattern on the EE Roo I have...
Very Odd but Cool

And It needs a Home!!!!!

Neato Torpedo! That is too cool! He will change a lot but now is when he is super dooper pretty and should be photographed for his new home. Of course, he will be gorgeous later, too but when they are little they have that cutie pie look wrapped in an adorable package.

And why does that look like snow in the photo with him? Did you take him skiing?

Ok so I have been lurking but not slowing down long enough to chat on here!! So I just want to say HI and hope all are doing well. I am dealing with Fowl pox in one of my coops...so far seems isolated there but I am daring those darn skeeters to spread it more...otherwise all is good here!

I did get a call today offering me an interview for a full time position with the school district...I have tried for 3 years to get in a classroom and have interviewed several times with no luck. Those positions I applied for...this one I did not even know about...they called me...I am not sure what to do.I have been working hard to get the farm going and if I go to work full time I may have to give alot up and scale way back =( I was hoping to turn this into a little something but the guaranteed money would be nice right now...but there is no guarantee that I would have a job next school year either and I would not be able to do many of the fall shows and swaps...ack...what to do??????

Sam! That is too awesome! Wait, no....I prefer you to be a chicken farmer with me.....no, that is selfish.
You need to have more income so you can spend more money on birds! The kids will help you with your birds now so you can work and make more money and buy more birds and lumber and John can build more pens and you can grow and next summer you will have lots of new stuff going on.
Like you say, they may not call you back the following year.

Yup, that's me! Ever helpful to make up your mind of what to do!

John wanted me to turn it down...we talked about it during lunch...he likes where the farm is heading and I will still be working part time with the school...if I got the job I would have not been able to do all the shows and swaps...I spend fridays getting ready for those saturdays...it takes time to pull birds and pack for a early morning...If it was with special needs I dont think I could have passed it up but it was 4K...thats a hard group....SO CHICKEN FARMER I STAY!!

Cool! That sounds really great!
And I think it was the right decision.
I can imagine 4K could be stressful and I sure don't want you to give up any shows or swaps.
As you can tell, my mind was on a paycheck. Seeing as how I don't really ever get one except what Terry suffers for....LOL j/k

glad you got some of your bad critters.. hopefully we can get these dang critters soon.

blessed be Pink

I hope you get lucky enough to get rid of yours soon. I still have not lost anymore.. but my most of my chickens have gone into a skidish mode, Hopefully all will be back to normal soon enough

Does anyone sell Delaware chickens here? I have a friend looking for a rooster. I don't remember seeing anyone in the Upstate selling them though.

So I hatched out 10 chickens large fowl in my hatch 8 weeks ago. I have at least 5 roosters and now tonight I heard another one of them start cock a doodling. So it looks like I have at least 6 roosters! That is not a very impressive male to female ratio! lol!!!! Do roosters go Bok and cock a doodle do? Can hens have a deep bok?
Found a roo...texted you! and yes...hens bok...so do roos! wait until your roo helps sing the egg song! the egg song can be WAAAAY louder and longer than crowing!!! LOL
