hi everyone. Ive been offline for over a month.. so I am so behind on all the news. hope everyone is doing well in this heat...

Any news on up coming events , shows and swaps??? ive got a lot of replacing to do.. dang coyotes and fox...

Im gonna have to have a lesson on how to kill and process all these roosters I have. Is anyone gonna have a "harvesting party this fall???? I just dont know how to do it or really if I can????

Are there any fall/apple/pumpkin festivals around the Charlotte region? My wife and I just moved here and looking for things to do this fall. We have them all over in Ohio and I am having a hard time finding them in the Carolinas! Thanks!

OMG, yes! There are tons of festivals. We have the steeple chase up in Tryon NC with BarBQ, there is the fall festival in Asheville NC, Bel Chere, and so many pumpkin, apple and other things going on that it keeps you busy every weekend.
If you have Google then go and search for a few of these. There are always listings on the Greenville, Asheville and other local area websites. The nightly news will tell you about any coming up for the weekends.

Hi, all! I've been gone forever but we are finally settled in the new farmhouse and I can breathe again. I need to catch up on the thread for sure!

I did just read the post from Eggierow about her chicks. In my experience, once a little chick catches a chill, it takes a lot to keep them going. Even if they act okay for a few hours or a few days. I just started using my rabbit cages again for my babies. Somehow two of them managed to fall out onto the concrete floor. I didn't find them for a few hours and put them under the heat. They seemed fine the rest of the day but both died later on. It's such a fine line between too cold and too hot. Honestly, I'm still trying to figure it all out!

Ive been gone forever too.. so glad to hear your in you new farm house. I know thats been a long time comming and you and the kids are gonna be so happy instead of all the back and forth to the farm.
what all are you breeding and rasing now.. ?

Certainly has a rooish face but the body color sure is pullet! Unreal! But this is a very gorgeous bird! If it is a roo and you do not want it I would love to use it in a project.

Really? You can definitely have him! As funny as it might sound I would be honored to have him in a project of yours! lol! I do believe it is from an egg from Sam's farm!

leirob--that is an unreal number of chickens to have lost. There is a lot of that going around and I am having trouble finding some freshly laid eating eggs!! I can't believe how many predators you have caught--it is amazing you have any chickens left!!

OK here is a full body picture of my chicken.




For culling a chick I put it in a baggie and then put it in the freezer. I don't know if this was the best or not. I chose to believe it got cold so fast that it just went to sleep and did not notice. I liked this better than actually having to do something to it.

Well I am shocked, Robert hasnt posted this. We hatched our first turkey poult from our grown birds.

We spent the weekend, moving the 24 young guineas to the outside pen.

The turkeys are challenging. They now can fly up on the stall walls, but there is a gap between the 2 walls and sure enough, we have had 2 now fall between the walls.

Have to use a fishing net to rescue them. Thankfully, they seem to not be any worse off after the fall.

Darn birds.

The first turkey hatch!!! Yippee!

Those turkeys are sure trouble.
I went down to let the ducks out at noon and the crazy things flew over the 4' fence and came trotting along behind me. The good thing is they come when called so when I went back to the barn yard they followed me back.

Looks kinda like a cockerel to me...and that is a different "take" on the term "freezer camp"...I so hate when chicks are lost! I have had my share too...

And I am plagued by a RACCOON right now! Smarty won't be trapped or shot...YET!!!

HAHA...I can just picture you guys fishin' for poults in a barrel!!!
