I have a friend here in Greenville that raises the Royal Palms and they are really beautiful birds. If you decide you want some, he does have some for sale right now. When we visited him last time, his royal palm tom was a bit aggressive but the hen was on eggs so he may not always be like that. I want the slate blue or the Bourbon Reds but Jonah doesn't care - he just wants "tuuukeys" (said with the cuteness of a little boy who can't say his r's yet). I'm glad to oblige since I've wanted turkeys for a while now.

I think you need to put the new bird in the coop and let it hang out in the coop. Im going to set some eggs the 15th of feb for my next hatch. Its my own flock im setting.

Four in the "bater." Four in the "bater". I've got four silkie eggs in the incubator!!! That's all of the room my father in law had left. I'm most def gonna have to get my own. My DH says, "What do you want with more chickens?" Any good answers for that question?

I think there's a poultry show in N. Georgia this weekend. Anyone going? Nikki

These are the eggs I collected from the new coop today...I danced all the way from the coop to the kitchen when I saw the dark egg. Now I am like Yancy...don't want to eat it and don't want anyone else to eat it either!

According to my DW, you are!! She swears by it, that the darker the egg, the better the taste. IMO, I can't really taste the diff, but IF i HAD to pick, I'd say the browns taste better than the white.

I don't know if it will taste any different but right now it just looks better to me

Guess I will have to do a taste test in the near future just not tonight..I just want to admire it tonight!

John I feel your pain...I figure I will be there this weekend!

Thanks for the advice, Nadine and Joycats! I'm well aware of the independence and intelligence of Pyrs & their tendency to NOT want to do something simply because you say so.

I'm taking her for simple obedience training, that's all. I am not a big person and I do not want a large dog dragging me around the property on a lead. Unfortunately, I do not have the choice to leave her with a trained Pyr. She's part of a litter that belonged to a guy who had let someone borrow his Pyrs to watch goats while the borrower redid their area. The mom wandered off onto my parent's neighbors property (lots of acreage) and had a litter of 10 puppies. The neighbors had seen her wandering around, found her and the pups by accident, and when the original owner came to take the mom and dad back, he didn't want the puppies. Said he had enough dogs. (I know, then get them fixed, right?

I said the same thing.) Anyhow, so these neighbors took the puppies and have found homes for all of them. I talked it over seriously with my DH. He doesn't like dogs because he's never been around one that doesn't try to jump on him and lick him. He can't stand that. We both realize it will take lots of hard training, but honestly, if this Pyr acts like a good Pyr usually does- not needy and attention-seeking of humans all the time- he will be ok. I know I have a looooong, hard road ahead of me, and she may not ever be a chicken-guarding dog, but if nothing else, she will make a good guardian for the house and family. We're willing to do what it takes

Good for you Aksmama - I'm sure you will love this puppy! When do you get her? Can't wait to see pics. I'm laughing at what you said about being dragged around the yard by a big dog. Been there, done that! LOL My two girls got into a terrible fight over a treat, Georgia takes Dixie's away from her and Dixie stood up to her and a fight ensued. Well I was out there with them and this was a stand on their back feet, teeth clashing knock down fight. So Dixie has enough and tries to back away but Georgia was ticked and wouldn't let her go. I had to grab Georgia by the tail so Dixie could get away from her. Georgia dragged me halfway across their yard before I was able to lock my feet against the dog house and stop her. Poor Dixie was relieved to get away and Georgia stood there looking around trying to figure out what was holding her back. I thought she might be mad at me but she wasn't. Didn't take her a half a second to turn around and stand on top of me, giving me "kisses". Never a dull moment with these two. I can do whatever I want to these dogs and they have never uttered a growl at me. They are totally loyal to all of us, they love people and I feel very safe having them with me in the yard. In my opinion they are worth the effort.

Nadine - my marans are hatching!!! I heard peeps coming from the incubator yesterday and this morning and the first chick hatched tonight!! So excited!
