That is so great, Kris! I know you wanted those buffs to hurry up and do their thang!
Sorry I missed you at the show! Did you get my return text? I did not hear it because of the noise but answered when I realized it. We got there about 10:30 or so. Met up with Mary Bell, saw all the gorgeous Silkies...OMG! And I, of course, drooled over bantam Cochins, d'Uccles, Booted Bantams and more.
Heidi, here are some photos of the huge RIRs. The photos aren't great, I am a bad photographer, but you can see the color and some of the shape. They had RC and SC variety.

They were less than cooperative about looking at the camera but that is 2 of the boys and below is one tired hen. LOL

Love that deep rich red color! Mine don;t have it that rich. they are a nice deep red but not nearly that rich in color. Mine are just hatchery birds though.

Here is what I would have competed against had I shown my Booted Bantam boy. Toby Napoleon could have taken him on!

And there were some splash Silkies there to die for! And I learned a bit more about Silkies and color while I was there. Always nice to talk with experienced breeders and glean a bit of info. Not that I breed them much but every tidbit of info can lead to better conversations and may help me with something else in some of my breeding programs.

And a Silkie I would have brought home if I could have! The Porcelains, or in this case, self blue cream, are my weakness. This was shown by a Junior.

I took more photos of more birds but mostly for my own studying. I had to see what was there in Mottled bantam Cochins (only 2) and continue to work with mine that I think I may can enter next spring. If my friends are going with their entries and I am riding along, I may as well enter a few.

After a very busy month or two, I am trying my best to show up around here again. My husband and I waited until September to take a vacation, and then Lou Ann and I took a vacation of our own two weeks ago when our office was closed, I like traveling in the fall when it is cooler. Now, we are getting ready to start building an addition to our house for my father-in-law. I may need a third vacation soon!
The chickens have gone wacky on us! We have had one buff Orp that did a pretty good molt. She isn't laying again yet and may not until Spring. The other Buff Orps seem to be doing a very light molt right now, and one of the Wyandottes is molting. Our Ameraucana has molted some, but never stopped laying.

Here is the wackiness. We have been getting one Wyandotte egg for a couple of months with an extremely light yolk, really pale. Yet, she eats what everyone else does. This same egg, which used to be light brown, is now almost white. I am thinking the one laying it may be the one that is molting a little, but not sure. Both Wyandottes, the Maran, and the Ameraucana are still laying regularly. We have a Splash Orp who is now squatting and should lay at any time.
Wacky chicken number two-About ten days ago, Lou Ann found a shell-less egg in the nest box. We thought it might be from Nina, the Buff who had gone through the molt, or Kalina, the Splash Orp that should start laying soon. Yesterday, there was a Buff Orp in the box (it is the one that is molting the least). When she finished laying, she left the shell-less egg. So that is two that she has laid(and we have had no other buff eggs in between). Any ideas for these two birds?
I just purchased some Avia Charge 2000 to start them on and keep them on, especially through the winter, to see if I can get everyone back to optimal health after molting. I now know we had a very, very easy first year. This year is a bit challenging. Integrating the new "babies", however, is going better than I had hoped. We just have to teach them to go into the coop themselves instead of us having to take them each evening.

I so wish I could've come! My back just wouldn't have lasted that long of a drive though

That is really one of the only things I can complain about with this pregnancy though, so I guess that's not too bad! Amy: several of the eggs I got from you a while back hatched! Long story short though...we now only have one chick still with mama hen. I'm pretty sure it's a SLW. And boy is it cute!! I just hope it's a little pullet though bc either way I realllly want to keep it and I don't need another rooster! Can't wait to see everyone at the Clemson show Nov. 17th!

AMY, I said the exact same thing, Toby/Napolean would definitly taken that goldneck on. HE was a nice boy, but our boy is stunning. I also took alot of time studying the d'anvers, Robert moved on ahead of me looking at all the other birds, he said I was sllllllllllloooooooooooooo. Anyway, I hate we missed you. oh and the pullet I have from our guys would have done well compared to that goldneck pullet too. So thats really good news. Do you know where we could find out about an exhibitor at the show. or contact info on exhibitors?

We have another pip on a turkey, so Tom and Jerri have done well.

I never found the d'Anvers but I was looking at all the others and naturally, running my mouth at whomever would stand still for 5 seconds and get caught! LOL
So nice to hear the pullet would have done well, too! Awesome!

On the exhibitors you would have to pick up the paper going into the show that had a list on them and their numbers and then you look at the cage tag to see what number is on it so you can find the name on the paper. If you don;t have the number from the cage tags I can't help you but I do have a list of all the exhibitors.
Maybe go over to the Morganton thread here on BYC and ask. there should be some in Clemson next month, too, I would think. There is shows the next few Sat. in TN and NC before Clemson. And of course in Feb. the big show in Newnan GA.
