I'm in gaffney! Had to travel over two hours away to get my chicks, because tractor supply is done for the season and apparently No One around here has em!!! Im hoping that means there's a market for it. Maybe I'll wrangle a friend into it :)

Hey I'm down in duncan/welford area just getting started with blue AM. Hoping to work on some olive eggers What variety are you starting with?

I have 15 Rhode Island Reds. They're 11 days old. Nice to know there's someone out there a little closer to me. What are olive eggers? Does that refer to the color of the eggs?

Olive eggers are a cross of Marans, and Ameraucana's, Easter eggers or cream legbars. I think some use welsomers as well. The idea is to use a dark chocolate colored egg chicken and Cross it with a blue or green egg laying chicken resulting in a dark olive colored egg.
It's nice to know someone is close by. There are quite a few us up in the upstate. They pop in here from time to time. RIR is a great breed. Where did you get them?

Cool, I learned something new :]. I got them in Lughoff. I've read good things about this breed, so I'm hoping they'll be good to me for my first time around.
