South Carolina

Just saying "hi" from Piedmont, SC, right next to Greenville. I am brand-new to this chicken business, but I certainly dove in headfirst. I got my first hatching eggs (guineas) in April, hatched 10 in May, one died and three I just gave away at 3 weeks of age. My six left are doing great, and I have since added 10 straight run Americanas that were 3 weeks old (lost two), and today I picked up 5 girl chicks and one future rooster (all mixed breeds), they are 2 weeks old. In a couple of days I'm getting 15 baby girls (10 who knows what and 5 Ideal 263s) in the mail. I've also some how obtained a goat in this time. And now the 48 eggs (24 Rhode Island Red, 24 barred rock) I've had in an incubator the past 3 weeks are starting to chirp after I was sure they were all dead. So...I may have some chicks to sell soon...I only want 20 hens and 2 roosters!
I'd love to meet up with any local chicken people, just for the fun of it.

Helloooo from Chester o. o I recently got dragged into raising 6 chickens, coming out with 12 due to chicken math (go figure). And somehow ended up with three roosters that if something is not done soon, I will probably have problems with, but still I love them and can't bare to send them to the freezer D: so yeah, conflicting emotions here!

There are always get togethers of some sort going on where chicken folks get together for one thing or another. We have local groups, clubs and swaps.
Our Upstate Small Farm Connection is mostly chicken folks as well as backyard farmers (a few chickens in the yard and a small garden). Then there is the Anderson All Breed Bantam Club, where a lot of folks have LF as well as bantams but they just can't be shown in the show. No matter, we love poultry.
Then there are swaps all around us. On the 28th of this month there is one up Hwy 9 right over the NC line in Mill Spring at the Polk County Ag center. There is also one in York that same day.

I have been asked numerous times to give poultry clinics here at my farm but the preparation, set up and taking a day off from normal chores is pretty difficult so I have not ever done it.

It's a hard thing to find a good home for roosters. But if you post here the breeds, ages, and where they came from, you might find someone who needs them.
I've noticed. Not knowing the breed type has cost one of my roosters a home. I'm trying to figure it out now, so hopefully it won't come down to the butcher =.=' I'm still hoping one of them will suddenly decide to lay eggs.

Still looking for a home for these mottled Cochins roosters. 16 weeks old
