South Carolina

Hi Tallie, I'm STILL waiting on 24wk olds! I stopped cchecking nest boxes every day, several times a day. Lol. Now I skip a day. They know, I'm waiting! Lol.

Hey guys I'm from Charleston. I have my first set of hens in a brooder right now but I think after we finish the coop this weekend I might buy two or three laying hens because I'm already tired of waiting for eggs, I don't want to wait another 4 or 5 months. Too bad I can't find anyone near me selling anything decent.

What breeds did you get?

Well it was a rare breed assortment but so far I think I have a Delaware, Golden Campine, Easter Egger, Welsummer, exchequer leghorn and a blue orpington. I also got a polish but she had to be rehomed because the other chickens were trying to peck her to death. I want to get a couple more easter eggers and then some production birds.

That's a good bunch! Welcome! Did they come from meyer hatchery? That sounds like their breeds.

Hello & welcome!!!! We did the same thing. We bought day old RSL's then when they were about 15 weeks old we had the opportunity to buy some EE's that were laying so we got 4 & we love our blue eggs! My RSL 'so did start laying at 20 & 22 weeks still have couple we are waiting for! It's the fancy girls that are still holding out (silkies & serama) they are 23/24 weeks

Yes. I bought them from MPC but they ship from Meyer so that's where I got them. I'm really happy with them so far, I just wish I got find some good layers nearby to pick up. I'm ready for eggs.
It seems to be a bad time of year I have a few asking me for some laying hens but I sold out. If you really want production hens you might look into sex links. They have by far been my best layers both the reds and blacks. RIR are good but I find that the barred rocks lay just about as well but seem to have a friendlier disposition. But you may find other opinions on that. Just have to find what's right for you. Good luck!

I think you might be right. I've been searching for some EEs because I just love them but I can't seem to find any.
