Yes Regin, my plan to is to breed the Buckeyes to SOP and i will be contacting you when the time comes for my chicken keeping to begin. I was really hoping to get my start in a good established line. I am so glad to have ran into you. Thank you for the Pee Dee resource too. the property I am looking at is on the Pee Dee River.

New to this site. New to chickens, too. I think I'm going to need a Pyrenees to guard the flock. I've had a Pyr before and understand the breed and what-all it takes to train and care for one. Bruno was a therapy dog, as we didn't have any other animals and he needed a job. We belonged to TD Inc. He was a wonderful companion and made lots of people happy, but now he's gone to the rainbow bridge. Does anybody out there have a farm Pyr puppy for sale, preferably one that has been around chickens and children? I don't need or want a registered show dog. I'm near Lexington, SC.

Welcome hedy and buckalorp!

Thank you! I enjoyed seeing your roosters. I may want a rooster someday. Right now I'm getting used to having 6 pullets and looking forward to the day we find the first egg!

Same thing happened in Lexington, SC! Hard to believe, snow this early. I'm new to chickens (one week, 6 pullets), and when I slogged out to the coop this morning (in the dark), there they all were in the run, huddled together under a wire roof instead of in the cozy coop. Well, I got them back in the coop and closed the little door, replenished their water, dropped the flashlight, got wet, etc. Lots to learn, but fun. Made a run to Tractor Supply this afternoon, where there's lots of good chicken equipment.

We don't have electricity in our coop. Any ideas on how I can keep their water from freezing?

I live in Laurens SC. I think I had frozen water a total of 8 times, maybe. And that was during the Polar Vortex. As long as you take water out to the coop as soon as you can in the morning they will be fine.
