All of those, except beans, are my go to summer crops for chickens. I've just never tried feeding them beans. They also love cucumber. In the fall, I plant one whole section of kale just for the chickens. You can pluck leaves all winter, and it's great to have green treats for them when everything else is deadHey I was wanting to know if anybody has tried to grow small crops for chicken feed. And if you have what do you plant for the most feed. Just trying to get some ideas. I have already planted some cherry tomatoes, two varietys of corn, yellow pear tomatoes, as well as beans. Just wondering if there are others that do this for their chickens.
Thank you. I'm thinking that once I have harvested all of these plants I'll plant some pumpkins and maybe some broccoli. All of those, except beans, are my go to summer crops for chickens. HI y'all, I'm not having much luck anywhere else so figured I'd ask here...anyone local have Favorelles or Ameracaunas (forgive me if my spelling is incorrect)? I'm close to Aiken, but wouldn't mind driving. As I said earlier, I'm just not having any luck on FB groups and after spending $$$ on what I was told was Ameracaunas, I found out later they were actually EE's. I don't mind them being EE's and actually enjoy them, I just wish the seller had been upfront with me. Thanks for any help!
you are fortunate to have Ameraucana breeders close by. Get in touch with @samouw who is in Aiken and @DnDFarm who is in Spartanburg. Check with @CarolinaHen about Faverolles. Also visit the Ameraucana thread.
Thank you so much! Will definitely be reaching out to them.
Samouw (Sandcastle Farm) is in Aiken, and she has beautiful, standard bred AMs from solid Paul Smith and Cliff Redden lines. EEs are great birds, but not Ameraucanas. I have both, and love them both, but the Ameraucanas are special. I'd recommend Susan first, she is closer, but if she is booked up I will have some BBS chicks available in about a month. Mine are Paul Smith line, as well.
