You missed the ride home.

We stopped by Williams for feed. Silly rooster was squawking and fussing.

By the time we left there & got to stop sign at end of the road, Nicole had reached through the back window and got him out & put him on her lap.

He laid in her lap and fell right to sleep.

Not another sound from him until he got hot. Then he squawked and she held him up to get some wind blowing into his feathers. After a couple of minutes of that, she put him back into her lap and right to sleep he went. He rode on her lap for about 30 minutes

When we got home, he liked walking around in the yard, following her, finding her "treats", but he does not like being in the pen! He is mad at her over that, or at least fussing about it. He will squawk LOUD and fuss unless he can at least see Nicole. He squawks then stretches his neck looking for her.

She says she doesn't care much for chickens, but this little fella stole her heart!

She is always telling him how pretty he is..

Dick, I think we have a picture of it. If she doesn't I will get a couple tomorrow. It amazes me & DH to see him do it too. I would almost swear when she was holding him earlier he stuck his foot up for her to rub!

Maybe I can video it

I think it totally depends upon the animal. Growing up we had a Golden Comet rooster. "Whitey" (I know, not original, I was the oldest and about 7 years old) didn't like being caught, but once I had him, he'd fall asleep in my arms. Whitey earned dying of old age. He was hatched in 1973 and lived until I had left home in 1985. I think he almost made it to the '90s.

My cat, Oliver, didn't like tummy rubs. My baby brother was playing with the cat brush and Oliver flopped in front of him and offered up his belly. "Brush that real well," I instructed my brother, "I don't think he has EVER had his belly brushed!" The stinker laid there and purred the entire time.

My children are convinced one day they will train some of these chickens to sit on their shoulder like a pirate's parrot. Josie (aka "Chicken Hugger") already has Little Dude and a couple of pullets playing "hawk" on her arm.

I started to get my camera phone out but I couldn't stop staring at him and her! It was just too precious. He really missed her when she wasn't around and for him to pout at first and then totally forgive her was too much!

And I do not doubt for a minute that little rascal stuck his foot up for her to rub! She has him so rotten and he looks at her with total adoration. It really is just too much!

Kimberly, you do need to video that. Of course, he will want to be a goof for the camera but let her not see him for a while and then come get him out of his pen and see if he doesn't go bonkers over her.
He was so stressed because I put another roo right beside him but at least his bald head filled in. Glad to see all those feathers back. He loved her grooming his new feathers.

Is she still trying to name him? We just called him "boyfriend".

I use Oxine to clean chicken stuff with. I put a few drops in the water in my incubators about once a week, clean water containers with it, brooders or whatever. It is safe for chickens. It even suggests putting it in drinking water for chickens or spritzing over chickens but I don't do that. Mostly it is the 'bators I use it for.
I bought mine online at First State Vet or somewhere like that, maybe Cutler Supply or Twin City Poultry supply.

I use Oxine also to clean everything. I have used it in the drinkers (especially in summer) to keep them from turning yucky. I wash down the coop after shoveling it out and the Oxine seems to really cut down the odor very fast. It works like bleach, only better and much stronger but without any bad fumes. It's safe for the birds and good to kill all kinds of bacteria and germs.

I never heard of such a thing with a chicken...I couldn't stop reading your little story here and could picture every descriptive minute of it. How amazing! If I didn't here it from you (after seeing how highly regarded you are as an expert here on BYC), I wouldn't have believed this story. Amazing how a chicken would let anyone lay them on their back so they can get their tummy rubbed! I got dogs that don't do that!

I have a silkie roo that dances for me. He runs to the fence when he sees me and follows me until I go in and pick him up. I always hold him everynight and tell him how beautiful he is and what a special roo he is. I love that bird. He won't let anyone else hold him.

YEA!!! Baby Millies - how wonderful!

You're going to love them. I don't remember how many eggs you took, hope 5 was a good hatch. Don't worry too much about the ducklings getting wet. The wetter, the better for them. I have baby ducklings free ranging in the yard since the day they hatched. I can't believe how much faster they grow and how well they do with the weather and such. They hatched Easter so they've been exposed to some very cold nights and also some severe thunderstorms. I actually went out to check on them a few nights (even in the rain) only to find them snuggled up together, sitting right out in the middle of the rain. They're doing great and they are feeling strong enough that I'm watching them try to run off the big drakes. It's the funniest thing to see 2 or 3 ducklings chasing after a drake and trying to pinch him with their beaks. I have no idea why they do it, but it gives me a good chuckle everytime.
