Joy said they got about a half inch at her house last evening. Lucky lady!

It is getting crunchy here, too. I like more rain for the peaches!

My cats eat some chicken grain. I do not know why. I, unfortunately, feed the neighbors cats because they eat with the one cat I have kept. Now I think I will keep one of the kittens from this spring. Time to set up an appt for spaying. I know it is a girl. If I don't do it now it may never get done. Still have a few to take to the shelter. Another 6 months and there will be more but I can't care for them all.

My three jack russells follow my chickens around too and eat their poop. That's when they are in a good mood. When they are frisky they play hunting games when my back is turned and kill chicks. So therefore I don't let them around my chickens unsupervised or when I have multiple dogs together. I can't trust them anymore. One in particular. They don't even eat the chicks. They just chase and rough play until the chicken is dead

Guinea Bird cooped up with the chickens tonight!

He wants to live here, I guess. I closed him up after putting their breakfast in the hopper and though he gave me a wary eye he stayed on the roosting board next to the hens. He is so handsome! If you can get past the face. He is certainly not very kissable looking. Well, maybe to another Guinea!

We did get a big down pour while the sun was shinning. Right in the middle of feeding the tractor birds. I didn't complain. We needed it. Saved me from having to water my flowers and maters.

Hope everyone got a nice shower on their gardens.

I would say 3, no more than 5 days old is good for hatching eggs. Because by the time they make it to you it is hitting the 1 week mark. I've been pretty lucky with "MOST" shipped eggs. They travel all the way across the US in about 2 days. Lately I've had problems with broken air cells, but I figure thats the chance I'm taking with shipped eggs.......Usually people are generous enough to send extra's and that compensates for the eggs that dont develop.

I need another but really have to get something more short haired.
Poor Jolie looks awful with her haircut and I am still combing all that out! Egad, the dog has enough hair for 10 more dogs.

My friend and I laugh over the fact that her Chihuahuas need it all because they are still getting under covers in her house. And she doesn't have AC!

I knew a thick haired dog would be a struggle as my others have been and I always preferred my Dobermans. But dobes are not good for a chicken farm. Even my Schutzhund trained dobe from Germany could not handle chickens. She saw games, not livestock!

my great dane see games too.. but he is hunting breed.. no one else minds them but dont know that they would protect the flock. they're too worried about getting back inside to the ac..

Yahoo. Last weekend, one of my girls laid her first egg. I have gotten several of them so far (5-6) Well today, another one of my girls started laying. Whoop whoop.

.

Now here is a question. Both eggs are kinda small. Not tiny, but small. The chickens I would say are average sized. In other words, not bantams. Will the eggs get bigger as the continue to lay, or am I destined to have samll eggs? The chickens are mixed pullets, RIR's, BO's, and BR's. I dont know which ones are laying, but the eggs have been white and now today light brown. thanks
