Welcome to our SC list!
You aren't far from me. Take a look at my website and see if there is anything that interests you that I have growing here. I have added some new varieties to a few breeds that may not be listed. Just ask away on here and someone should have something you are looking for.
Tell us about the chickens you have and what kind of set up you have going on at your house. Coop, run, free range?

Hello all.

I have a trio of Salmon Favorelle's for sale. They were hatched from a fellow BYCer eggs on July 19. They hens should be laying any day now. $40 I'm in Aiken.

I have pics.

Hi! We just moved to Greenwood from Greenville. We closed on our farm a few weeks ago and now have 108 cleared pasture acres just waiting to do something with! We are living in our lakehouse on Lake Greenwood right now. We inherited 7 goats, 2 donkeys and a mule with the purchase and are trying to figure them out!

I have 16 chicks coming in a few weeks and 9 Ameraucana eggs that I hope to get some chicks from. Currently trying to figure out what I need to buy/build to take care of these babies!

I'd love to talk with or meet others in the area. I have a lot of plans of what I'd like to do and raise and would love a friend!

Thanks for the welcome. I have two Buff Orpington hens and two Buff/Barred roos. They live in a chicken tractor made from PVC that I run in my garden. Check out my site at the BYC sister site The Easy Garden. It shows my other chickens I lost last year to a neighbors dog, I have since gotten my own dogs to guard the yard.

I am currently working on a dedicated chicken coop where my rabbits will be housed over a chicken run. I'll try to post some picks. I plan to throw all my compost in there and let the rabbits and chickens keep it stirred up for me.

I plan to add about 6-8 more chickens once I get my coop finished. The building was done over the holidays and post set for the run, hope to get it finished this weekend. I plan to add one hen of each of the following: lakenvelder, welsummer, polish, speckled sussex, silkie and salmon faverolle. I may get a full Buff roo and try for chicks out of my Buffs, well see how it goes.

Our lake house is in Puckett's Ferry on the other side of the lake. Our farm is out towards Hodges off of 246. You are really close! I may need to come check out your chickens and get some stuff!

Jamespm_98,

I can't believe you worked on your run in this horrid cold weather! It is all I can do just to go out and do all my farm chores without freezing in place! Brrrr!
Fabulous garden, though! I love to grow stuff but have a hard time of it so I don't get a lot out of my garden. And the heat will certainly make me head back inside in the middle of the day but then, when does anyone have enough time to get it all done in a day anyhow? LOL

Good idea about the rabbits and chickens. My chickens keep the coop turned really well and they free range! But I do use their coop mess for future gardening and they get mad when they have to start all over again with different shavings. Which are actually dirty shavings from my DD's Guinea Pig cages. She has over 50 cages to clean each week so we have plenty for the chickens to play in.

Good luck on your run building. This weekend is going to be awfully cold. But next week.....

Welcome, Suzanne!

You have so much to look forward to! What a lot of fabulous land to work with. I thought my little farm kept me busy! Your new name is going to be busy, busy, busy!
I hope you all can get everything put together the way you want and have a wonderful life down on the farm.

Nadine, I have to work when I can, besides I was off 11 days at Christmas and my wife probably couldn't have stood me being in the house the whole time. I have been using my chickens in my garden for about two years with my little chicken tractor and I pitch all types of stuff in there like leaves and grass clippings the birds love it. They acutally move out of my way and wait so they can jump in and see what goodies they can dig out of it. I got the idea about the "chicken hutch" or "rabbit coop" from looking around this website and others. My rabbits are about 3 feet or so off the ground on wire in their hutches and the chickens will have access under them. From what I understand the chickens love to grab bits of spilled feed and dig around in the rabbit poo. Top that off with some leaves and straw and you get compost really quick. I see you have welsummers and barnevelders, once I get my coop run finished I may be interested in seeing what you have for sale. Currently I have promised my girls some chicks this spring, but I wouldn't mind getting a few young pullets as well.
