Amy, not sure what your temp is on your incubator but I hatch my guineas at 99.5 in 26 days in my Sportsman. I have never had a 28 day hatch except under a hen. You might just want to watch them as you may not have to wait so long!!

Heidi,
My Sportsman runs at 100.5 all the time but you are right, I don't think I had to wait 28 days on the last hatch. They started pipping when I put them in the hatcher on day 25.

The still air that my friend has here hatched a buff Orp out yesterday........day 17! And another 2 popped out this morning. It runs pretty hot around 101, sometimes 102 but that is while in the turner and closer to the heat rod.

However, the Guinea eggs are in my Sportsman now and I get such good hatches from it. Well, at least from most eggs.
I just candled 2 dz that were shipped to me from someone here on BYC (that sent me the wrong eggs to start with!) that I got off auction and there was only 5 eggs that developed, the others were all clear except for 3 that had early blood rings. She claims that it is SC PO that does it to the eggs but I get great hatches and often 100% hatches from shipped eggs from all over the US. Geez! That was a lot of money down the drain and I still don't have the eggs I actually paid for! The lady said I would love these just as much. BUT I did not want this breed, I specifically asked for the others.

Outside now to cool off the chickens and ducks! Sometimes I play in the water spray, too. Ask Jackie!

You all should have seen her dressed up yesterday!

She came to get some Guinea eggs and had Midas with her (What a sweetie! Perfect gentleman in the house and outside, too!) but Jackie was not dressed for chicken farming, although she swears she has done chores in a dress and heels. I think a few of my roosters are still in awe of how purdy she looked coming down to the barn like that!

Yes, I get some of my best hatches from long distance shippings of eggs. The parents of those guineas came from eggs shipped from Oklahoma. I got a really good hatch from those. I also have some OEGB's out here from eggs from my mother's chickens in Spokane, Wa. They took one day to get here and I had a really good hatch from them. I think the further away they are the better since they put them on a plane to get here. Some of my worst hatches have been from eggs out of NC. Guinea eggs are pretty tough!!! Hope those prove to be!!

Haha!!!! I was about ready to join you with the spray hose. It was AFRICA hot! Like I tell my friends, I do my best chickening in my high heels. People can just deal with the smell of chicken poo in the office when I give eggs to everyone

Funny you should say that about NC. I have had some weird things happen with eggs shipped up there, too. Several times this year people have drove down to pick up a second batch of eggs because the first batch I sent did not develop when they were hatching like mad here. Then their second batch did fabulous when driven by them back up. Must be something about NC PO for us!

Oh, Miss Jackie, you would have had all my roosters following you up the driveway had you been sprayed with the hose. That dress was so pretty and looked so great on you but if wet....owh la la! (Midas would have fended them off for you!)
It was hot but when it shoots you without you realizing it (I have some holes in the hose!) up the back of your leg and is well water cold then you jump a bit!

Hey everyone! Sorry to interupt your thread, but we are planning a trip to myrtle beach the second week of august.
I'm desperately looking for show quality birds to start our flock here at home. I'm looking for mottled bantam cochins, standard wyandottes in several colors, and blue w/wheaton ameraucanas. Day olds or started or eggs or adults, anything really.....just hopefully available. Thanks! Pm me if possible so we don't disrupt the thread, sorry again.
I may also have some standard black brahma eggs to trade for anything I may pickup.

well I ran another fecal on my "tractor chickens" today and there was still cocci BUT not nearrr as much!

I'm happy with that! I started them on another round of sulmet a couple days ago so I'll probably just keep doing fecals every other week or so for a while to make sure I have control of it.

I am SO looking foward to the swap in Irmo!

I'll be bringing 2- 15 wk old Blue Orpington roos (hatched some eggs from Southern Bee Lady-Mary Bell) and 2- 15 wk old Blue copper marans roos (hatched from Amy Nadine's eggs). They're all big and beautiful (or at least I think so!) I can't wait to see what everyone brings!

Okay, if anyone wants hatching eggs to come to Irmo, they have a ride!

Better let me know now because I often have a week or two of folks waiting on one breed or another. I can definitely say I can't send BLRW, those are spoken for for quite a while.
But I can probably do a dz of Marans, Black and Blue Copper only, the Golden Cuckoo is broody. I have Silkie eggs of "we are not sure yet" but Flash is the dad and 3 hens look like blues or blacks.
Frizzle eggs, maybe 6 or 8 because I have to send some out, Sizzles in a very small quantity because most everyone is broody, I have eggs that will hatch OE, not sure about my Mottleds yet, pending orders on those however my Mille Fleur Cochins are laying decent and I have 3 pens of those and I have the Silver Laced Cochins in a small amount as I have to fill some orders.
I think that is everything.......unless you want mixed breed duck eggs. My laying Muscovy are all broody, well, not really broody as all the eggs are pipped today so they are mamas now, I guess.

And thank you, gvilledh, for your gracious invitation to carry eggs.

Well, thank goodness it is clearing up! That stuff is so horrid to get rid of! Sometimes I wish I could just scour the entire farm and get rid of all of it but that isn't going to happen. And birds, critters and other varmints carry it back in so it will never be totally gone.

I am just glad to hear the good news and know your kids are feeling better, too.

You are most welcome. I'm pretty sure we will be taking a black Ameraucana roo with us. The pictures tonight are making him look more and more like a roo and he definitely has a strut no other chicken in the group has. Other than him, the car is empty. Never transported an 8 week old chicken before. Could be interesting...
