GOOD! Then you can join us over in the quail forum. I got my pen finished yesterday. Eggs arriving today and going into the bator.

OMG...Had a Hawk incident late yesterday! I let my 4 "gals"(2are my roos...lol) out to range a while and walked past my hubby on the backporch to run in the house a min. I came right back out and he was still on the back porch with a small young hawk right in his face...he said it was on the ground next to my bitty pen which is against the back porch( My 2 from Farmer John are in it) and when he leaned over the rail to see why they were suddenly peeping it flew right at him...he beat me to the gals and actually picked the RIRs up and ran to the run with them while I delt with the roos!!! The hawk stayed in the tree over us for the rest of the night! Now I need a legal and harmless way to get rid of it....it is sooo pretty...and I dont want to hurt it but I also dont want a life of fully cooped chickies either!!!

Hello to all ( gvilledh) your picture of your cuckko maran look's just like what my suposed to be barred rock hen's look like. thanks for the photo. I ordered my the egg's from the web, the egg's were advertised as barred rocks HOWEVER once they hatched out & got all their plumage 'the roo's look just like pure barred rock's and the hens look like they were mixed with another breed, they are mostly black with hints of light gray patches of feathers ;So the other day I went on line to where I bought my egg's from and they are now offering BLACK SEX LINK JERSEY GIANTS;I wonder if my hens are BR/JG due to the breeds running together ? any way we will see what happens next .. IF They are; that might be a good mix. I would get the positive traits of the barred rocks IE; temperment, clamness easily induced to set and brood eggs, not to mention supperior egg & meat production and the Jersey Giants size and temperment.

DIXIEBEAST; I have a hawk that hang's around in our neihborhood , He's the DEVIL ... The other day he flew right up into a big pecan tree that stands over my chicken pen/coop, and just sat there eying the chickens, till as luck would have it a mob of neihborhood BLUE JAYS drove him off. I like Jays

Oh, I love all wild birds. So many folks hate the Starlings but I find their voice very pretty. It is annoying when huge flocks come in and empty the bird feeders out, even the chicken feeders but I try not to mind too much if it doesn't happen very often.
Hawks are beautiful birds but I really don't want them after my own birds. And Blue Jays or crows are so helpful to keep them away. I don't mind Blue Jays but dad used to hate them.

Before life with chickens, we used to be wild bird watchers. Now it is fun to watch them interact with each other.
