I thought about posting this in the quail thread, but y'all are all family and I wanted to share so...
After keeping the new quail comfortable on the dining room table for the past 2 days...( a foreshadowing of things to come- Shhhh!) I was only too happy to help the DH get the newly built pen moved to the back of the house. It now sits outside the kitchen window, so this fall I will be able to open the window and listen to the sweet sounds they make or sit on the back porch and watch them. They are very flighty. Our black lab is extremely interested in them, so hopefully should one make a break when I open the door, Jake will be on it in a hurry to bring it back.
Here they are all huddled in the cage I brought them home in:
Here is their new home..
I did get one pair of valley quail that I think are very pretty even though they just went through a molt. In a few weeks they should be gorgeous.

Water works, my two pyrenees girls went at each other one day and I grabbed one tail, my 16 year old grabbed the other tail. Half an hour later we still could not get them separated. I didn't have a hose either but out of desperation I grabbed their water bucket and dumped it over their heads. That gave me a half a second to yank them apart. Geez Louise we were exhausted. Sorry about your roo - bad, bad dogs.

Joy holy cow I've never heard 2 pyrs going after each other if they roam together. Mine is a house dog now (don't judge, he likes to eat chicken like his mom but prefers the feathered alive version) and is so big I could never even imagine trying to get to of them seperated. Did you count your fingers and your toes? Yikes!

I have seen the 5 gallon bucket used. A man sells them for $20-$30. I would get a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. Saw the lid in half and screw the bucket into the wall so that it is perpendicular to the wall. then put the lid on. If you need a perch for the entrance, cut a 2x4 to the diameter of the bucket and screw it onto the lid. Total expense if you buy the bucket, lid, and 2x4 is $12.

Jackie, my girls are sisters......need I say more? They haven't quite decided yet who gets to be Alpha dog. They've gone at each other 3 times, not something you forget. Once I was out there with them by myself (it seems to be a jealousy thing with my attention). I could NOT get them separated, tried until I hit the ground with exhaustion, called my son on the cell phone and he came out and we still had to work to get them apart. That is the kind of strength they have. If you've never seen a pyr fight, it's an incredible thing and sure makes me feel small. They stand up on back legs, lock jaws and growl and bark so.....makes us think of polar bears. They sure could give a bear a fight. Anyway, the first time it happened they were smaller and I grabbed Georgia by the tail but she wouldn't let go of Dixie. Dixie was trying to get away, dragging Georgia and Georgia dragging me across the ground on my butt. Funny picture I know, go ahead and laugh. They drug me until I locked my feet into the dog house and stopped them. Georgia let go of Dixie and turned to see what was stopping her. I didn't know if she would jump on me next or what. It took her a half a second to change the look on her face and start licking my face. They would never hurt me and I don't think they'd really hurt each other. Never has there been bloodshed between them. Not more than a scratch. But when they fight, I'm not getting between them. I've been told to grab a tail and pull and that's what I do.
