I know your joking. but I'll look at my girls who have feather legs and feet and when it rains I just know im gonna find one big mud trail.. but nope they keep those feathers clean, and their very stiff feathers maybe that has something to do with it.

Hi there!

I just found the CSRA group too....long time lurker here

I was wondering if anyone here knew if there is any place to have meat chickens processed in SC. I dont have meat chickens currently. I'm a city dweller with 5 backyard hens. We are building in the country though where we will have space for more

I could process my own but in the grand scheme of time=money I think it would be worth it to pay a few dollars or so per bird to have them done in a big batch and come back to me in a cooler. I've seen people in other areas post in the meat forum about packing up for the processor. Googling has given me only one lead...a pigeon processing place in Sumter. Any ideas? Or should we just suck it up and build a plucker?

Good question. Here's my answer..........

I think a lot has to do with moving the pens to fresh ground every few days. But even my few Cochins in stationary pens do not have exceptionally dirty feathered feet. I also do not have red mud. My dirt is a rich dark fertile loam and sand mixture.

It's official (as if it wasn't before). Guineas are stupid. And fast. And need to be penned up as long as possible. I am now covered in spider webs and probably posion ivy as my 3 made a bee line for the woods when they escaped. At least is great weather out!

Here are some better close up pics of the chicks from my hatch today.

My wife's favorite--We have 1 of these WHITE

But today my SWL(Rosie) looks very punie today...I'm doing a fecal test on her tomorrow at work. If it's clear then maybe I'll start her on AbX. She still eats and drinks and moves around, but very slow. Not like herself. Normally she's very excited about everything, but today not so much.
