A gold star for that observation!

I'm so excited!!! REDBUG......I've got guinea keets hatching, and they're all so beautiful! So far, there are 11 keets and they're all light/pastel - not a single pearl colored one among them. There is one little red looking one. I have to try and get a picture posted so you can tell me what I've got. Just had to share - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE hatching babies.

This is one very pretty hen! Are the legs really as feathered as they look? She is beautiful!!!

Amy--are all your girl this nicely feathered on the legs? Oh, now I want blues too!!

Nah, they all don't come out with heavy feathered legs, some are clean legged but most have the feathering. I do not breed for looks, I breed for temperament, egg color and meat. The feathered legs are just icing on the cake. Sometimes it is thin and sometimes it is heavy.

They should come out feather legged as it is dominant and my roos always seem to have it.

A few hens do not but the meat is still good and the egg color is usually very nice and dark.

Amy, feathers or not you have some very pretty marans! I can only hope my blacks turn out as pretty. I am already thinking once I get the blacks I need to work on my husband for some blues!

I'm about to head over to Lou Ann's and clean out the nest box!! We had it in the coop for awhile, but they decided they wanted to roost on it and on the roosts in front of the boxes and pooped all over it and in it. We took it down and out for awhile. Now they are roosting where they are supposed to and the nest box will be much lower, and we are going to take the roosts off the front of it since it will be so close to the ground. Hopefully, they will use it for the right reason in the next 5-6 weeks.

We just had the most pitiful looking puppy come into our yard. He was probably only 8-10 weeks old (still had puppy breath) and a terrier mix. He had lost quite a bit of hair and had some sores from where he had scratched himself so much. I decided to take him over to the Lost and Found at Animal Control. I didn't want him to wander into the road and get hurt, and because we have a dog, I didn't want to take the chance of him being contagious. The people at Animal control and I came to the conclusion that someone either put too much and too strong of a flea medicine on him (he still smelled like flea medicine or some kind of medication) or else it was a food allergy. The hair loss was most likely from him rubbing against something or scratching to relieve the itching. They will treat him and adopt him out. If I see a sign up in the neighborhood that someone is looking for him, I will call and let them know where he is.

Love this beautiful weather. I'm sure the girls are having fun outside. Time to go play with them for awhile.

I think you are right! I just think they are the prettiest little things--I grew up with standard game chickens and I think this is just the best of both worlds!!

Joy, if you have a reddish colored one it may be a slate! Mine was hatched out a reddish cinnamon color and she has continued to feather out blue as she matures. I do love all my lavs, dundottes, whites, coral blues and other light colored ones.

Keets are cute!

I'm confused, still on the first part of my coffee but you said only turn until day 10....why? They have to be turned for at least 16-18 days. Mother hen does it so that is what has to happen, though again, eggs can take more than we think when incubating them.
And if you want to candle them, go ahead. Chickychickybaby does hers every day!

Not really, but her DD accuses her of it!

When I had eggs shipped in the first time I was told I could not touch the eggs with my fingers or it would clog the pores and the eggs would not hatch. Years later, I realize the folks telling me about hatching eggs did not have a clue and from experience I have learned what I can and can not do.
Yes, I still make mistakes but I open my bator almost every day and handle my eggs without washing my hands

and they still hatch.

Just in case though, you do need to continue to roll your eggs and if you want to candle, you go right ahead and show your kids how life is created. This is a perfect example!

I agree with Amy.......Rotate till day 18.

I also look at mine all the time. Several times a week. Maybe every other day. Open the incubator up, candle, etc. No problems so far. Cant resist.

I ment stop candling till day 10!!LOL...too early to be typing for me I see!! I am rolling atleast 2 times a day!!

Y'all need to read that again. She says she is resisting the urge to do anything other than turn the eggs until Day 10. I guess because that's a "been there, done that" recently I get what she's saying. I am guilty of pulling eggs from the 'bator every evening to show Hubby the squirmy stuff after the kiddos went to bed. The kids were "ho hum". At least DH thought it was neat.

Maybe you needed two cups of tea like I had, lol.

LOL I am glad I was a little bit understandable but even as I reread it is confusing!! My special needs class is kicking my butt and I am too tired!! So glad its friday!!Whoo hoo
