That's funny Amy as the book I'm reading from says they were developed by the same man (Michel van Gelder) with the same crossing (both having D'anvers) and it evens states that although they are now recognized as 2 separate breeds they are still closely related having the same description in all ways except the beard and muffs. This is coming from my "chicken Bible" - Storey's Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds. I always find it humorous how the information changes depending on where it comes from. I'm assuming they were finally considered separate breeds purely for the show circuit. I know you can't see me smiling while I say this so I just wanted to clarify that I'm not arguing with you, only sharing what I've read myself.

You know I love to swap info with you, I always learn something.

Oh, yeah, we have to discuss it back and forth. Makes it all pretty interesting.
And yes, Gelder did create the breed but according to the standard they are not built the same at all.
It is like me breeding the Jersey Giants to my Langshans. The JG originated from the Langshans but they do not have the same body shape or present the same way but I crossed them up anyhow and still consider them cross breeds. Just because they have the same blood I do not consider the ones I made closely related. I do not want to deceive anyone into thinking I just bred more Langshans.

I don't own that Stories Guide as the ones I do have are most interesting. Just as in judges at shows, it is their opinion at that time. We do learn new things every day. We read and exchange knowledge and ideas and learn so much and generate more ideas to share.

Someone posted a photo of their "d'Uccle" that had the beard and muffs and wattles. It was funny looking but I expect that may be what I will get from crossing the d'Uccle and the Booted Bantam. They are cuties and I just want color form this cross but plan to put the white d'Uccle back to another true d'Uccle, too.

I just love these little cuddle muffins. I sat in their pen yesterday for about 15 minutes and let them climb all over me and pull at my clothes and beg to be petted. I love that I can pick one up and cuddle them close to my face and snuggle my nose into their feathers. (Yes, I treated them for mites and lice!

) This is really an awesome breed and I just adore that Porcelain color.

I did include the link in that last post because I did not bold or capitalize those words. That is what it was like on the website and I wanted to make sure everyone knew I wasn't emphasizing that as much as they were.

Guinea update: don't tell them, but I don't think they realize they're guineas! All three will let me pick them up, sans screaming bloody murder and, gasp, will take treats from my hand! Here is Jaques, the psuedo baby daddy and their psuedo baby momma Scarlet.
