I have had 2 rotten eggs in my incubator but it was my fault both times. I was trying to hatch some eggs that a hen or duck left. Just last week my duck took her 3 babies off the nest and left 6 eggs so I thought I'd stick them in just to see if any others would hatch. Well, within a few hours one had burst. It's an awful thing to have to clean. But I've never had that happen with shipped eggs that I received. I did ship some duck eggs once that I KNOW were fresh and the receiver said that one was rotten when she received them. I sent extras so she wasn't upset but I was completely surprised by the information. I always candle my duck eggs, just habit I guess. I collect them daily and I never sell eggs more than 3 days old. Sometimes the extras that I send are 4 or 5 days old but never any older than that. So either something happened in shipping or she was wrong about it being a rotten egg. She was happy with the others that hatched so I didn't give it much more thought until now. I have read that duck eggs don't keep as long as chicken eggs. It was hot weather when I shipped these eggs so I thought maybe that had something to do with it. What kind of eggs did you buy and how far did they travel?
