Looks like everyone had a great time!!
I would like to ask if anyone has ever had a rotten egg in their incubator. I have been hatching for over 13 years and I never had a bad (rotten) egg. I received a shipment of eggs I paid quite a bit for and in 3 days of incubating 2 are already rotten

I think I was sent a bad batch of old eggs. I can't even imagine what shipping could do to make them rotten. I could sit my eggs out for 4 weeks and they would not be rotten. Do you think that shipping could do this to eggs?

I have had 2 rotten eggs in my incubator but it was my fault both times. I was trying to hatch some eggs that a hen or duck left. Just last week my duck took her 3 babies off the nest and left 6 eggs so I thought I'd stick them in just to see if any others would hatch. Well, within a few hours one had burst. It's an awful thing to have to clean. But I've never had that happen with shipped eggs that I received. I did ship some duck eggs once that I KNOW were fresh and the receiver said that one was rotten when she received them. I sent extras so she wasn't upset but I was completely surprised by the information. I always candle my duck eggs, just habit I guess. I collect them daily and I never sell eggs more than 3 days old. Sometimes the extras that I send are 4 or 5 days old but never any older than that. So either something happened in shipping or she was wrong about it being a rotten egg. She was happy with the others that hatched so I didn't give it much more thought until now. I have read that duck eggs don't keep as long as chicken eggs. It was hot weather when I shipped these eggs so I thought maybe that had something to do with it. What kind of eggs did you buy and how far did they travel?

When I bought the eggs they were supposed to ship on Monday 10/24 , then Saturday 10/29 finally they were shipped 10/31. I got them 11/2, put them in the incubator 11/ 3 Today is 11/ 5 and 2 are rotten, somethings not right. I assumed (yup, I know what happens when you assume

) since they were shipped later that they collected fresh eggs but I guess not. I know shipped eggs are a risk, but I don't expect to be shipped bad eggs to begin with.

Oh no - I think I would feel the same way. It does seem like maybe the eggs were old. Did the seller give explanation for why they were late to ship? From 10/24 to 10/31 is a long time. I would be asking for replacement eggs. I hope they at least sent extras. I know shipping eggs is always a risk but still you should be able to expect fresh eggs.

To get or not to get.

That is the question. I don't need him, but boy do I WANT him. He's a serama cockerel BigB offered me for price of shipping. I think he has the neatest spalshes of color. I would name him Picasso.

I have had good results out of most eggs that were shipped.

I guess we have all had bad experience out of shipped eggs.
I am waiting for some that are due to hatch tomorrow. I bid on 12+ buff and splash silkie eggs. When I picked up the package at the post office, It felt like slight shifting in the box as I carried it out. When I opened it, the eggs were individually wrapped in bubble wrap and they were in a homemade bubble wrap envelope but with space in it for shifting of the eggs. They were all laying on their side . None of the splash developed and were probably not ever fertile. She sent extras but they were some of her project cochins. I have 5 buffs and 4 cochins in lockdown and really don't expect them to be strong enough to hatch.

I have received fertile fresh eggs from most people. I love to get eggs wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in egg cartons. Then either shredded or crumpled newpaper around the cartons.

Bless your heart! My dear sweet sister-in-law did that in the hospital while my brother was going downhill with cancer and my darling daughter worked emergency surgery on it in the hospital room with a hairdryer...saved it for a couple days but...it went kapoof too!

remove the sim card and place it in a ziplock bag of rice (to draw out the moisture). try a hair dryer too. I dropped my phone in the tub twice, and it still worked.
