Amazing coop Avonshire!

To those of you who hatch often, do you use a separate incubator and hatcher? And if so, which hatcher do you recommend?

But thank you!!! I had no idea there were separate hatchers!! So much to learn!!! Every day it's somethin new...

The only one of my 8/9 wk old chicks to still keep me guessing... Prolly only cuz I'm hoping HE will turn into a SHE...

It's an orpington. If it is indeed a HE, HE has to go.

Some people have staggered hatches. So they have the incubating eggs in one and the hatching eggs get moved over at lockdown.
I don't know enough about Orphs to help you, but it's a pretty bird!

It is VERy exciting!!! I hope it goes well. How many made it to lock down??

Avonshire - I started with 12 bantam buff cochin eggs and 1 (lonely) Lt Brahma. One of the bantam eggs was not fertilized and was thrown out when I candled on day 7. So there are 11 bantam buff cochin and still the lone little Light Brahma egg in there.

Thank you!! He has a side business doing handy man jobs (in addition to firefighter schedule) so it's been SLOW goin, but it sure will be great when he's done!! I'm a homeschool mom too!! 3 boys and finally got a girl!! LOL!!

My five month old wyandotte cross crowing. He has such a ringing, beautiful crow to be so young! He crows, a silkie roo gurgles (not sure if it could even be called a crow yet lol), his father, the wyandotte, crows, then he crows again. This tree is in the middle of the run. The youngsters prefer to be rebels and roost out here instead of inside the dry coop.

Well I lost another bird today--a silkie. It had been sick and I think the weather got to it today. So I use to have 21 birds and now I am down to 13. Of course this is odd chicken math right? So I have had chickens since last late March and I have lost 8 birds. Are these normal numbers? Am I just not good at this chicken thing???? I am thinking about incubating because I need more eggs but I am wondering if maybe I am not cut out to be a chicken farmer!? Or maybe this is just normal and that is why it is good to incubate a couple of times a year???

well, my silkie eggs look fertile so I may do a test hatch soon

they've laid every day since they started!
