My Odd story about Anya my BO
She is the kindest chicken ever. Loves people, loves peoples toes. Anya hates other chickens, especially roos. She could care less about her other hen sisters. Pecking Order she aint got time for dat. She loves me and my dogs and coming into the house like it's hers. So I spoil her, she is allowed in(rarely pooping)(which we know how much chickens poop). She walks around, eats from the dogs bowl and naps in the floor or in a dog bed. She is dat bomb. She waits around in the house til dusk, when the roos go to bed first....Then she RUNS like the wind to get to the coop and hops up on a roost to sleep. Honestly its the saddness thing ever to see her run for her life just to sleep, breaks my heart every night. Next morning all the chickens are good and when I open the door to coop to let everybody out Anya is hot on the heels, but since I work she HAS to play nice with the other chickens. She'll do the whole flock thing and somewhat obey the roos, but as soon as I get home.....I'm pretty sure she gives them the "bird" and runs to the house. Just to let you know this story is not made up..I got pics.
Please Meet Anya best chicken ever.

Now while I was typing this dusk has hit...so she just took off and I must go check on them and lock everybody up...Only you chicken friends understand this story and the love chickens can bring us!!!!
Everybody have a great Holiday!

Thanks. I wish I had more sunny spots for more area. If I can get read of those 3 ducks then I can have another 12x12 spot. Which it use to be.

Love this! We ended up with a house chicken when the flock rejected him as a chick - he's 8 weeks now. Peepers lives in an XL dog crate in the living room right now, but has his run of the house when we are home in the evenings. He's too small for a chicken diaper right now, but my mutt likes to eat his poo so it's not really been an issue.

He's courteous enough to jump off of us or the furniture to go on the hardwood floor. I understand the evening panic - Peepers starts to FREAK when it gets dark outside or when we start turning lights off in the house. He will scream until he hunts my BF down and climbs onto his head/baseball cap - which is our signal to put him back in his crate for the night. He lives in terror of the other chickens - he is never far from us when we take him outside and cries out in alarm and runs around in circles if he sees one of the hens has escaped the run. I don't think he will ever be able to rejoin the flock properly.

OMG! I bet your mom really thinks you are strange now! Chickens are for eating, not for pets!

Of all the birds I have raised, none have been house pets, though DH is saying he figures the pea chicks may well be in here a while. I am really surprised he hasn't got the poults in here, especially the new boy from Kris and Robert!

She actually came over yesterday and just shook her head at us. I'm pretty sure she thinks we're officially nuts now. We picked up three poults from Kris & Robert, and it's not for their lack of trying that they haven't made it in the house! We were conscious not to let them see us come and go from the front door, but they figured it out by watching the dogs. We also didn't think they'd climb the back steps, but we were wrong. If my mom saw the turkeys hanging out with us at night on the patio, she would really call the men with the little white jackets.

Watching Top Gear

I saw them go in up there...
