South Carolina

Most everyone knows me. I am between Inman and Greer, usually have around 700 birds though I try to keep it down to 400. Ha! I think I have 400 in the brooders now and I think there are something like 12 brooders going right now.
I have a big website but do not update it as often as I used to. It still represents me well though!

Hey! I'm in welford not far from you. Someone told me you may have blue ameraucana's? Is this true? I may be looking for a young rooster soon.

I no longer breed pure Marans and pure Ameraucanas. I cross mine together and run 2 pens to make Olive Eggers. People do beg me to go back to the pures but the market is flooded with birds like that and for what I have in my birds I can't sell them cheap so I do what I like and that is create Olive Eggers.
If you would like an Olive Egger cockerel, I have plenty of those growing up. We send ours to freezer camp and keep the pullets for more egg layers. We get the best of both worlds this way. Good meat and beautiful eggs.

Amy from the upstate farm facebook group? My brain made that connection randomly, so I may be way off. I'm not far from you in Cherokee Springs. I am kind of rapidly expanding my flock, it seems. I set my limit at 7 hens. I now have 12 pullets with 11 more pullets on the way next week and 16+ hatching eggs coming tomorrow (hopefully). I don't know how this happened, haha, but I am loving them! I already need another coop set up in the next month or 2.

Good to know! Olive eggers is one of my goals so I may need to do that if I can talk my wife into it. I'll send you a msg on FB

That is usually where I am at!

Hello!!

We will be moving to near York, SC in June to begin our small homestead. Our first step is to build a chicken coop and get some layers!! I am excited.

We will be looking for hens that lay a variety of colors because out little girls are excited to see green and blue eggs and I really love the dark brown eggs.

Are purple/plum eggs really possible? pink? That would be rather awesome.

I am looking forward to learning and sharing with those here.

Hi, I am also in York. I think the 'pink' is a beige with a light plum cast to it.

They are possible! I have a Delaware who occasionally pops out a purplish egg or a brown with purple specks. I've read of people having eggs these colors. I wish I could remember which ones lay these colors.
