No more field work for me(for now), I'm back in the shop, but not getting much over time lately. I have other projcts too. My Marans have laid some nice eggs. On the AM's 3 hens, and 8 roos, most are freezer camp recruits.

HI JAMESPM_98 Glad to here from you if you need anything we are real close by. My son lives close to Iva, so we are just down the road at times!

Hi NADINE, I was in Compobello today, 1 1/2 hr drive for us. Did not go to Williams Feed was 1 mile or so away, rain and all. The young man I got the chickens from works there at times. He said he had brought the chickens there. His coop/run got damaged with the snow they had. So you seen the ones I got. The chicken's looked a little weathered. They are now in a safe warm new home. My homemade incubator is working have a 3 eggs started pipping! Have 24 RIR eggs set. They all should all be hatched by Sunday! We'll see. Old saying: Don't count your chicken's before they hatch. If I can get this to work good the incubator can haddle 150 eggs at a time! And Thank You for that Info. going to try it now!

Daniel, I am just glad to know you are still getting a paycheck! In these times I am glad when anyone has a job.
Why is it I work all the blasted time and yet i am so broke? Oh, yeah. I guess I spend all that I make, which isn't much!

I am glad you have chicks growing up and doing well. I still have about 6 roos destined for the freezer. they are pretty but I haven't room or need of them so chicken and dumplings it is!

sc anderson,
I guess it was Thomas you bought the birds from? I was going to get them but my isolation pens are all taken at the moment. I need to stop buying and keep selling. Too many breeding projects and not enough room.
As soon as all the wet weather slows down I will be getting my building materials for a new breeding barn. It will have 8 pens all together. Each will be 6x10. Maybe that will hold me for a while!

Hi everybody! I am sitting here in Lugoff, SC in Kershaw county. I have learned so much from the pages and members of BYC!
I do wonder if anyone here knows of a feed mill that makes chicken feed that is a bit cheaper (no pun intended). I have a 25# bag of chick starter for 25-30 that will be coming in 12-14 days but hope to find a deal on feed to make it easier to provide the little (and soon to be BIG) ones! And to be honest it will be easier on my pocket book as well. Just wondering out loud...

I do not know one near you and I doubt you want to drive up here to our local mill, though we have people from NC drive 2 hours down to get a truck load. A bag of starter is $8.25 and layer mash is $8 or 8.50. Sold in 50# bags. And I pick up wheat or ground corn. Still better on the pocketbook than some places. I feed mostly whole grains but use this too because of the attempt to keeping it as close to organic as possible.

Hey Nadine,

Our new hens and roo are doing well. Thomas is a very nice young man. We had 10 peeps over the weekend. Oh how cute they are.
Someday when we are up that way again maybe my husband and I can check out your coop; always room for new ideas. Not looking forward to more wet weather but at least it is not snow.
