South Carolina

Me too! I need feed big time.

Unloaded all 18 roosters this weekend thanks to CL. Kept 3 I love and the rest are gone. I'm fairly sure none were going to the soup pot since the buyers knew lots about chickens and were looking for specific breeds. Relief!

Got about 3 inches of rain today. So needed!!!

It was awesome! My lakehouse is 10 minutes away and we didn't get near that much there. But the farm got soaked. My silkies look hilarious! Half the size and their crests are sad.

Know this is way off topic, but I needed a SC audience...sorry, but do any of you know of anybody who might want a 5 year old red roan gelding? He is a very good boy and rides very well, he just has a light duty restriction due to a hip that gets sore if he's overworked. He's FTGH! PM me w/questions.

COME ON OVER!!!

I'm going to sometime this week, I promise. My kids are with their grandparents this week attending VBS at their church in Spartanburg, so I have some time to venture out by myself.

Columbia, SC here! City Council recently passed an ordinance allowing backyard chickens in the city, and my husband and I now have two game hens (or as we call them, our lady gamecocks). My co-worker's mama hen was killed by a coyote two months ago, so we offered to take a few of the chicks...sadly, one turned out to be a rooster and had to go back! We're working on finishing our coop, but it's been slow going between the triple-digit temperatures and the thunderstorms. Once it's done, we'll be looking to add a third hen to our family.

I'm looking forward to meeting other urban chicken enthusiasts in the state. If anyone knows where to buy organic chicken feed in the Columbia area, I could use some advice!

I'm in Columbia. Southeast, past the VA hospital, near Caughman Road Park. I'd be happy to have you come out to see my set up and meet my girls.

I would like to buy feed from Countryside Natural Products, but we would need a large enough order for them to drop ship here. If we could get enough people together, maybe we could make that happen.

Hi ya'll,

It's that wonderful time of year! Air so hot and thick it's like trying to walk through a pool filled with simmering water! I'm trying to turn a big wooden packing crate into a small coop and it's tough going, even at 7 a.m.

The month of July has been a good one on CL - I have sold/given away 5 roosters and sold 4 hens so far. Seems like they all went to pet type homes, too.

Maryk117, I hope you can find a good home for the roan. Might want to post in the BSA section here and on the sister site, www.backyardherds.com

Preacher, delighted to hear you and the store are doing well! Wish I were closer.

Stay cool!
