I have one hen who I swear thinks she is a guard dog....she hears the back gate close and she flies off the nest and is meeting us at the runs gate. Doesn't matter what time it is or what the weather is...thats her job! Tonight my cochin rooster was just a crowing, why I have no clue...must be the moon...

He is working his way out, cracking it's shell all up. I know have 4 others marans that have pipped. I am soo excited as there are golds and regular cuckoos as well as english and french. "It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get".

The wind was horrid here yesterday!

I have one dog kennel pen that is on it's roof right now. I only had a pair of breeding Marans in it and found them hiding against another pen. The roo has a few cuts but the hen is fine.
The wind had to hit 60 mph! I could hear the roaring like a freight train, though a tornado was not in sight.

Now I need to go get that pen up right again and fix it back. I am going to move it over so it is blocked from the wind by the shed. Though I doubt we will get winds like that again for a while. I have lived here for more than 25 years and I have never had wind that strong before except when a tornado did come through and roll my single wide mobile home over with me in it.
Gosh, I hate wind!

I love my new coop! It has a built in brooder box in it and I have moved the laundry room chicks into it this am....they are happy as they now have a roost and are as snug as bugs in a rug!

Water not frozen here again thanks to the homemade warmer...Hens are laying like crazy today and thankfully the howling wind has turned into a breeze. I am staying warm by cleaning out coops and stalls...how about you'll?

The wind has settled tremendously and we got the chain link dog kennel/chicken pen put back up and now I have it tied to the hogwire fence behind it.

If it tries to take off again it will pull up a long fence line!

I have all the waters and feeders filled and now am just heading out to put up chicks in the shed and close up chicken doors as they go to bed. Them crazy ducks like to stay out until I have to fuss at them.

I wish I could heat all my water containers!

I only have smooth at the moment. Do have a girlfriend who has a chocolate frizzle rooster that will be fathering some chicks in the near future though.
