I have put the front on my duck coop and the roof! Yes! Now to make the ends and get them on. Maybe today!

Here's mama with four of the babies (one was hiding):

They're in the little broody house in the coop. She is still determined to hatch the three unhatched eggs. I'll go out tomorrow and pull them from her and see if she wants to bring them out. I'll have time tomorrow to observe and see if she's going to protect them. I think she will. She lets us reach in there and pick them up with no problems, thank goodness. They are eating and drinking. I love to see how closely they watch her and how they all pop out from underneath her when she does the food call!

They are so adorable! Nothing sweeter than a mama and babies.

I finally pulled the chicks out of the Frizzle coop because it has been 4 days and I have not seen the hens bring them out yet. They may do it but I don't see it since it is a coop far enough away from everything that I only go in once a day. I put the chicks up to the waterer outside the coop yesterday and they drank and I put them on the floor of the coop and they ate a tiny bit but went right back and jumped in the nest box with the two hens who are still sitting on some eggs, too.

I left them a while ago showing the chicks around the pen, pecking at some grass and bugs they are finding under the tall grass. I will check on them again in a bit to make sure they made it back into the coop. I can't believe how well new chicks can hop up a 4" door sill. I forgot what eggs I put under those hens. I think just Sizzle and Frizzle.

Oh! And the ducklings under the Silkies must be at least part Runner. They are standing up pretty tall!

Ready for a gorgeous weekend?

I have to go get feed tomorrow-wonder if there will be anything else worth getting? I can't afford more birds right now, but you can never have too many veggie plants. . . . .

Also if anyone is interested in a buff feather footed or black feather footed pair let me know.
My silkies are becoming sooo fluffy~ Love it!! They are getting more friendly now that they know we'll put them back in the coop-first time we've had chickens that actually preferred the coop during the day. Of course it's also the first time we've kept them in a coop/run for so long. I hate not free ranging them, but I'm tired of animals getting our chickens.

What breed is she? How old is she? Is she in general population with birds older and bigger than her? How many roos is she in with? How do you know she is keeping it closed when she walks? Is she just limping and then when you pick her up she just curls it up?

Maybe cut the feathers back on her foot, see if you can see any broken feathers causing some pain, check the foot and leg for swelling.
And move her to isolation so the others won't start torturing her because a weak bird is a dead flock so they get rid of any weaker ones themselves. And roos will take advantage of a hen that isn't able to easily escape and they can kill her.

I think she is a Buff Banty when i hold her her foot is always curled up. She was with chicks her age (5 weeks) or younger. we have her seperated right now and when she walks it seems like she slips or kicks that leg out to the side.
