Up at daylight and I finish up at about 9:30 at night now. I come in to eat and drink and use the restroom but I am on the go constantly. Still do not get as much done as I would like. I had way more time when I worked full time than I do now. And we still haven't put in our garden. But I am sure a certain someone is waiting for me to get the tiller going so he can take over and play for a while. Ha! Ha! to him! I ain't doing it this year!

I am so tired of not getting to finish until late at night no matter how much I think I have done.

On a good note (notice I always try to be happy about something!) I painted my 2 duck coop crates and have one ready for the roof. I could do so much more if a certain someone would stop killing the lawnmower!

It is hard to struggle through deep grass.
For those of you coming to visit this weekend, sorry in advance. It looks like crap. Since I haven't a phone and Fed Ex has yet to deliver it I can't call a friend that does lawn maintenance.

Now out for more feeding and watering.
Buckle up everyone, tonight storms are rolling in!

I'm always outside until about 11:00 pm. We eat supper later and later. My boys help me sometimes but I just never get enough done. My housework is neglected and so is the yard. But this week we get to watch the day old baby ducks swimming in the fish pond and the 3 week old baby ducks waddling all over the yard. The peafowl dance and sing for us daily and I feel blessed to be able to have all of my animals. I'm glad that my kids can grow up in this environment. It's what I want to do, or else I wouldn't be able to maintain it. It is a labor of love for sure. I can tell you this, my neice and nephew complain about being "bored" but my boys have never used that word. No time to be bored at my house. Now I must go see if the storm has passed so I can go back out and check on everybody. I didn't get finished before the lightening and rain got to be too much and I had to come in.

NO storms here yet. My chickens are spoiled and still live in tubs/crates with chicken wire over the top in my garage at night and free roam during the day. They get to avoid the storm.

I was asking about peafowl in the peafowl section. Interested in a peacock for a birthday gift but I think a pair may be too much trouble for a neighborhood and the tail would be too long I think to keep a male like I wanted in the coop my husband is making for the chickens. Guess I have to wait until he retires from the military. Dang! We are still in our twenties!

Well, the storms hit here a few hours ago and I didn't quite get finished checking on everybody so ended up going back out in the rain to finish up. I was worried about the lightening but it was the mud that got me. I slipped in the mud and fell flat on my back. My fanny took the first lick and the back of my head took the second lick. My hands were full of course so I couldn't even break my fall. AND I had eggs in my pocket.

Everything went black and then I saw pretty stars, knocked the breath out of me. I probably won't be able to walk tomorrow. Ya'll be careful out there. I'm not going back out til tomorrow.

That sounds about right.

Peachicks are kind of fragile so it's easier to buy a one year old or older bird. They are prone to getting nabbed by owls at night if allowed to free range because they prefer to perch on the highest point around. Usually this is the barn or the house and that puts them right out in the open for predators. They moult in the fall, dropping all of those beautiful, long feathers and regrow brand new ones adding another foot to their train every year. My biggest one has about a 10' train right now and he is very beautiful. I've been told they can be kind of loud although I haven't really ever noticed that.

They also like to perch on top of cars.

Is it true peacocks are mean? That's the biggest reason my hubby said no! He said they all attack your ankles!

We had peacocks for years and years and never had a mean one male or female.. we had whites, black shoulder and greens.. no problems ever.. they arnt the smartest birds.. i dont know that I would turn mine loose..
good luck with your peafowl )O(

And I can say that as I just placed an order for 30 more layer hens, coming in 3 weeks.

LOL
You are so right, Joy!
DH said the other day I may need to think about parting with some of mine but only because I am still building breeding pens. He loves the free ranging birds but hates to see any in pens. He understand the concept of purebred birds but he would also love to see them all free ranging and enjoying life. I try to make my penned birds have a good life and some are allowed to free range in the evenings once my big, bad sterile Orp roo starts gathering the flock to coop for the night. That gives them about an hour in the evenings but all they do is follow me around or go pick on the other penned birds. I really do not feel too sorry for them.

Anyhoooo, I also have another chick order coming in from Strombergs this week. I hope to keep more from this order. At least until they are 6 months old.
I swear, this is my last order of the year!

However, I rearranged some breeding birds and will start setting eggs again soon. But they are only the itty bitty MF Cohins. And no, I am not calling them anything bad. Never thought about it, Dick, until you said it. And still did not get it until Julie(?) said something about it! Shows how slow I am or am just not used to that phrase. Been out of school too long, I suppose. AND I don't watch movies much. I think that is the last time I heard it.

Oh my gosh what have you ordered now. I cant imagine you needing more.. whew...

So true! And we hope he doesn't notice new ones! We are on the hunt for something killing my babies. Got two of my lav silkies. Climbed the screened door and squeezed in the opening above it which was just a few inches. Tore off the heads. Ate one pretty good but left the body. I'm so upset! I thought they were safe. What would it be? Coon?

I worked in a Pet store and at one time some rats got loose in the store.. all fine for a while till one am we opened the store and a $500. cockatoo was headless in the cage.. the rat pull the head thru the cage and ate it.. it couldnt get the body thru the cage .. might be rats.. least to say we took care of the free range pets store rats.. but not before a couple of cockatiles were found headless.. yuck..
good luck on finding the killers..
