I swear my birds are nothing but trouble. I was trimming toenails and beaktips and had a sudden itch on my arm. It looked an awful lot like a bug that would normally be a parasitic bug. So the bird I was caring for I start blowing the feathers on all over to it's dismay as it's peeping and crying and carrying on and then there right at the bitty is a colony of LICE.

So then I become a butt inspector and look at everyone and sure enough all of them have the lice. It seems to be just small colonies on their butts. So gross!!! My oldest chickens appear to be clean (or the one I caught at least outside) a couple outdoor ones didn't have them out of another age group. But I picked up one and he had them. So weird. I think I know where the lice originated from. Seems to be pretty mild but gross. I read sevin dust works. So is that ok for my poor small chicks too? XD

In other news. My coop is almost done! We only have to put up the fencing and paint!!!! Anyone have suggestions on where to buy avian flight netting? I am using that to cover the top to slow down the hawks after reading about the silkie and such being nabbed by one!

not had a bird with bugs yet. However, I treat every 4-6 weeks with sevin dust. And at least monthly the coop & run area with permethrin. I do not use just the sevin dust.....I usually rotate out with ivermectin externally. Just depends on what I can get to when I remember it is treatment time.

I have been known to bathe the silkies & then do couple drops of ivermectin .....but that's my show birds and they also get flea & tick spray.

The misters make my birds happier and more comfortable to heck with making more humidity, mother nature makes more of that when it rains especially those 10 minute rain showers in the middle of the afternoon. I am really not worried about that, the mister I have really doesn't use that much water, less than washing a car, or watering the garden and if its in the shade it doesn't evaporate that fast.

How wet does it make the birds & run? How long do you let it run? If it works I will try it!

Misters do cool the air around them........ for people anyway. That is why so many amusement parks have them. The air right near them is cooler too, even if you don't get wet. I just wonder how the silkies would like that.

A mister & a fan.........now that *I* would like
