That's where I saw the best deals and was thinking about buying from. Thanks for the tip!

Ivermectin is used to prevent heartworms. Just do not use it on collie or collie mixes. A lot of people use it instead of the medication through a vet but there are benefits to using vet supplied meds. Usually if your pet comes up positive for heartworms on a product and you've been on a product throug a vet the company who makes the product will pay to treat your animal. There are also excellent flea and heartworm combo meds out now. I use trifexis on my dogs. Kills fleas dead in 30 minutes all month long, kills parasites, prevents heartworms

I'm a Licensed Vet tech & agree 100% with what you said

Trifexis is a GREAT new product. And the companies will cover the cost of treatment if an animal happens to come up positive (has only happened 1 time in the 5 yrs I've been where I work)

It's amazing to me the wealth of knowledge that's shared here. Bravo!! to BYC and all contributors!

Actually Heartgard and other heartworm medicines for pets use Ivermectin as the active ingredient. I tried buying heartworm chew tablets for my five jack russells not realizing that you had to have a prescription! My vet said he'll write me the prescription for use at 1-800-Pet Meds, but it will cost me $12. What a crock! They gotchya coming or going. I think it's rediculous since I can buy Ivermectin for livestock without a prescription...I just don't know how many drops to put on a piece of bread for a 12-pound dog. It would save me a ton of $$$.

Heartworm meds are prescription..because some of them can cause your dog to go into shock if they happened to be heartworm positive. We require that the animal have an up to date exam and a negative heartworm test before we'll sell it. (heartgard and advantage multi can be sold without the heartworm test b/c there's no risk of shock with them)

Be that as it may...I think paying $150 for the dog's shots and check-up should bring a prescription at no extra cost. You may carry the product, but charging $12 for a prescription negates the cost savings offered up through a purchase on-line. That's one way to assure we buy the product from the vet...kind of a consumer manipulation. Lastly, for the one line scribbles I've seen on a prestamped prescription slip...it doesn't take that long to write one up. Pitiful.

That does seem silly to charge a prescription fee when you've spent the money on yearly vaccines and exams. We almost never charge a prescription fee...

She does sell honey

lives 5 min from me! I have a bunch of blue orps from her too
smile.png
they're sooo pretty! I have 2 roosters about 9 wks if you want a roo!

Our clinic has for years not because we necessarily want to people to buy from us but it does get time confining to write out prescriptions for five people last minute when you also have another five people who have more urgent things like going over lab results. Before I married a military man I paid for my prescriptions for medication through my doctor probably for some of the same reasons. Just my two cents. It's not us trying to bully or be mean. And normally petmeds will refund the 12 dollars to the person if the person makes a big deal to the company about it I've heard.

I have the Buff Orp's and love them so much I'm assuming the temperments of the blue's are probably just as sweet! I'm in Simposnville, SC how far are you both from me?? I need some more honey and would love to see the Blue orps! I keep waiting for the rain today~ it's soo HOT! I hooked up that mister noodle outside and the girls just clucked at it along with the 2 "boys" Haha Kinda looked at it then clucked and ran off so I don't know if it will accomplish much
gig.gif
But I'm looking forward to all the rain to cool everything off. I had a plastic container sitting outside ontop of my grill cover with bird seed in it.... I went out yesterday afternoon and it has completely melted!!!!!!!!!! down to a crinkled sheet of plastic with all the bird seed sitting on top~ this weather is just to much.

Mary the bee lady was having to get more honey together because she had sold out in the spring, I believe. I bought a lot of bottles from her and am now down to my last one. I adore her honey! But I always get the creamed honey since it goes so well on the p-nut butter sandwiches.

Pink, how is your dark Brahma roo today?

I just caught up reading the posts (you all have been talking a lot the last day or so, where was I?).

Kimberly, can you type with your hand yet? I know you are highly allergic to bee stings. Did you use the Epi-pen when you got stung?

We give 1 cc per 10lbs of weight.

We treat our Australian Sheppard, Walker coonhound, and our smallest is a black mouth cur. My FIL has a JRT but we cannot give him ivermectin, he is basically walking dead - eat up with heartworms. He is sort of old, a real sweetie, calm and laid back - rarely bouncy - but since we have not had this dog but a year, we are choosing to love him and care for him....we cannot spend the $$ for treatment especially once the vet said there is a very great possibility the dog will not survive treatment. He had them when we got him.....He was given up by his owner - to the owner's nephew. He was not caring for the dog, so someone else got it & gave it to my FIL. We go for his yr check up this month to see how he is doing

Be sure the dog does not have heartworms before you start using ivermectin injectable, it can kill the dog.
