Hope you get past that headache quickly, I know it is not any fun. I'd suggest you come home to the 'farm" and lay out on the beach a while but dang it's hot there too!!! I"m watering the chickens and tomatoes two to three times a day and they still look wilted.

I did not plant any thing in the garden this year.......decided it got too hot too quick and I have enough to water as it is!

My fat butt does not like the heat.

My daylillies are loving this heat though. Blooming like crazy! (Amongst the weeds, that is!)

ETA:confused:midity....is about as bad as ice. Makes joints swell. My fingers looked like sausages the other day when I went out to check everyone!

Oh - please do let us know. I have one little RIR pullet walking on the top of her foot. She hasn't always done this so I was thinking it was an injury. Is this what you're referring to? And you'll have to give us the name of your wonderful vet who gave you such a discount!

OMG! Are you serious? I have read about that but now can't remember why and what I did about it. Obviously quite a while back. I want to say it was with the Guinea Pigs though. Could have been mentioned to me some other way and I plum forgot.
Yancy I am so glad you decided to take her in. Isn't selenium in some foods, like fish?

Dr Chappell has been saying he was going to retire forever but he is now at the age where he should so he can enjoy something other than work. I have never worked for him myself but he was in our clinic often for meetings about the Emergency Clinic. I thought he was a good vet from all the comments other folks had about him. Anytime a vet works hard for a pet they are great in my book. And hey, the price is exceptional!

I so hope she gets better for you!! That is just awesome that you got a great price and found a vet to help. Let us know how she recovers. We want updates!

That is the most adorable picture I have seen! He is so proud of that duck! I hope you do not mind that I copied it and saved it to my computer? So where was brother? I thought maybe each one would be holding a duck.

A bit too much to handle, probably?

That pair looks so small on your big pond! They look so happy!

What did the other duck think of them? Still scared and waiting to get to know each other? They usually get along pretty good. My ducks do so much better than my chickens about accepting new ones.
Although I saw my first female duck fight yesterday afternoon. So many babies running around with moms and they are very protective. Unfortunately, Khaki Campbell mom ran her baby to death and it died. I was afraid she would not make a good mom but she tried.

Thank you for the update, Nikki! That made my day!

Edited to add that Rouens do look a lot like Mallards but they are bigger and can't fly away. They may walk away but they won't fly away. Or if like Joys, they just fly over the tree tops and back home to where she will feed them. I think hers are spoiled!

I wondered what happened to you lately! I figured the heat was bothering you.

What you fed was just fine, so don't you worry. Oh, and Williams has gone up a dollar a bag! Said they had to order in corn because they ran out before they could harvest theirs and corn is high because of projected prices for November. I could not get dog food from there as planned. Poor Jolie has to eat what I get from Dollar General this month.
And now that the AC unit has set me back $2000, it will be a while before she gets the good stuff again. And there goes my weekend at the beach I was planning. I should have known a mini vacation was too much to ask for. But hey I have my health and home.....okay, I have my home and family! I will try not to complain.

Hope you are better soon, Kimberly!

Kimberly, Hope you feel better!

This dang heat. I hate it. But it looks like next week will be better.

After speaking with the DNR, they have informed us that you cannot get a permit of any kind to shoot a hawk. Doesn't matter if they're killing your livestock. Sounds like some of the local Game Wardens are making executive decisions which is fine by me. They did say that "legally" you can't. My husband felt like they were telling him to read between the lines. The DNR said that hawks used to be endangered but aren't anymore and really should be taken off the list. Anyway.... I'm going to get a bunch of songbirds to come reside by the chicken area and hope that does the trick. Since I've moved the layers into the protected run, that ole hawk stays at the back of the farm but I can still hear him screeching.

Chores before I die of heat stroke!
