To top off this week...I just went out to check on my broody hen...only to find that where there were 12 eggs under her...there are now 7. They are bantam cochin hatching eggs I bought and I am SO

! At least there's still 7. I'm thinking it had to be a snake. There was a space in between the roof and wall where one got in last year and ate my eggs along with 2 golfballs (yikes). DH still hasn't closed up that space so I'm assuming another snake helped himself to my sweet little bantam eggs (that by the way are due to hatch a week from today...they were almost there!) Well...guess that's what I get for leaving it up to the hubby to take care of closing that spot up..I went out to our barn all frustrated, gathered all the stuff I needed, and did it myself. At least now I wont have to deal with this again...I hope!

Hopefully all 7 of the little eggs will hatch next week. That'd sorta make up for it I guess.

Roughly 19 days ago I embarked upon my first hatching journey with a dozen eggs. Over the course of the past 3 weeks, all of the mutt eggs were tossed for infertility save one and 3 mille fleur eggs also made it - giving me a total of 4. I had tried to candle them a few days ago, but couldn't see anything but the air sacs so adjusting my humidity levels yesterday, locked it down and walked away hoping that sometime by Monday we would have babies. My DH thought he heard something this morning and he looked in through the window but saw nothing. Then, I just walked by to check and I saw a pip! My first pip! I got excited and was in the middle of calling DH when I heard chirping come from the incubator, I looked and saw another egg rolling a bit.

I sooooo need something to do so I don't sit and stare inside the incubator all day! LOL

Woo hoo! Now... calm down. It can take 48 hours from the pip to hatch. Usually doesn't but it might. I've given up on candling until day 18. If it has something in it (most of the egg looks dark), I put it in lockdown. If it looks clear inside, out it goes. I found hatching way too stressful when I was candling all the time! Good luck with your babies!

OMG, Joy! Something else we have in common! I love the low country and coast lines down there. Edisto is one of our favs, too. And so close to Charleston that when we camped at Edisto State Park we could drive into Charleston for sightseeing or dinner. MOF, that is where we were when the Twin Towers were struck on 9-11!

Did you take out the end of your finger or just leave the meat in the freezer pkg of squash?

I know, I know I should calm down, but it's my first time and it's like Christmas!! Already making plans for the next go around!
