Lou Ann and I were both working today, but her son was off. We put him on chicken watch. He was making sure the water had ice in it and took some frozen watermelon out to them. I just hope they did as well as they have been doing and went inside during the hottest part of the day. It stayed overcast for a good while and at 2:00 was still pretty decent. Better than lunchtime yesterday. I'm sure once the sun came out, it got much worse really fast.
The best news-It is supposed to be in the mid-upper 80's by the weekend. Depending on which website you look at, it could be as low as 82 on Friday and Saturday (Weather.com). Accuweather says 87 and 88 for those days. WYFF says 84 and 83. It is strange that I'm happy to think that even 88 would be a cool temperature? It doesn't look like it should be too bad for the next week right now, if we can just get through tomorrow and Thursday.
I'm curious to find out what the coop temperature was when Lou Ann got home. Hope it stayed in the 82-85 range that it has been in so far.

i really like the large breeds but maybe i should go more for heat tolerable birds? whats the general ideas about good breeds to have,I do understand that all breeds are getting hit by the heat just wondering if the are breeds I havent looked into..

I am so sorry, Pink! You have had a rough summer with the chickens but it has been a rough summer so far! I can't deal with this heat at all! Here it is 8 am and I already have to take a break because I am feeling dizzy. Even my nephew told me yesterday that he has never sweated like this before. Granted, he is now over 40 but he has always been an outside person and he says he just can't deal with this right now.

I am also a bit stressed today because my car was stolen last night!

It might have looked like a junker but it was bought almost new by my parents and I inherited it. It has been maintained by my dad and now me and I am totally out of sorts for losing something like that. It was a nice comfy car and I am so tore up about it. Not to mention that they have my address from the registration and keys to my house now because DH drove it to work (he doesn't take care of his own car so has to borrow mine quite often) and left the keys in it when I reminded him twice before leaving for work to make sure he took them out of the car!

Sorry, that isn't chicken related but may explain the stress some.
