Of Course this is PumPum now hinding between my legs(which could have been tree trunks she wouldn't know the difference) When the BigGurls came running up to see what I was feeding the younglings and of course run them off to eat it.

DH said if I ever won the lottery he knows I would head to Walmart and buy them out. Shows how much he knows! I would be online looking for some nice chicken coops! And someone to build them and deliver them!

And like you, I would hire someone to care for the farm so I could see places like the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone Park again. And spend more than just one day exploring them.
If wishes were horses......

Thank you, Joy and everyone who gave responses over my car. Most everyone I tell about it says I will probably get it back. But would I want it back now? DD says they are probably doing donuts with it! Good luck there! It is a luxury car (sorta), not a sports car. You can eat donuts in it but not do any!

Ha!Ha! They did get fooled with the amount of gas. It was less than a quarter of a tank and DH never puts any in it so I am sure it was about empty. Might have gotten them 20 miles as that is how far is to home so DH would have brought it back on empty, as usual. He got his rear out of bed this morning and fixed his flat tire though because he knew better than to ask to drive my truck!

It felt cooler here while I was finishing chores. I hope it was nicer at your house. A spitting of rain right at dark but nothing more.

Darn! Sorry to hear that!

I lost a big healthy Marans hen. She was great this morning when I fed and dumped old water, refilled with fresh cold water and she was eating, drinking and acting fine. Went back later in the heat of the day with ice and she was dead, laying under the coop in the shade. Open air dog pens do not always help, I suppose. I think she was a bit over weight so that may have been a problem.
Everyone else in that pen seems fine, too. I begged them to be okay. I am now so scared every time one pants!

OH MY!!! I just checked my FB and saw where Susanne (AKA Huckleberry Farm) had a really bad storm, microburst, or Mini tornado today which damaged her farm. She not only has structural damage to coops, but some Of the coops turned over with occupants inside, and lots Of animals are missing. I'm sure she could use some well wishes and prayers right about now.

Susanne hope u don't mind me telling everyone and let me know if there is anything I can do....Nikki

You could probaby give them until the weather starts to cool down before you pen them. Are they a large breed? Asking because the take longer to start than bantams and smaller breeds. Last year we got our giant cochin around the first of April at one week old and they did not start laying until the middle of November. So 20 weeks is just a guide line people use. Hope this helps some!

2 dark brahma hens, 2 barred rock hens and 1 white leghorn .. then 2 weeks behind are two EE's... none if them are bantam sized all big kids,,

It's been my experience that none of those breeds will lay at 21 weeks. The heritage breeds take longer to mature and my americaunas are very slow to start laying. You could put a couple of marked eggs or even a golf ball in the nest box to give them an idea of where they're supposed to lay. And if they start to lay on the ground, maybe try penning them up at night and letting them out around mid morning. Most normal chickens lay early in the morning. I say "normal" chickens because mine are not normal. They lay later in the afternoon.

With this heat, I wouldn't be surprised if your birds don't start laying until Fall when it cools off a bit. I'd bet the leghorn or the barred rock will be the first to lay.
