OMG Susanne! Praise the Lord you and your DD are okay!
I am so sorry you lost so many beautiful chickens and chicks!

The mobile home was probably okay to stay in since it is tied down but then again about 25 years ago we were living in a single wide here and a "wind shear" came up (sounded like a tornado to me!) and flipped it over on it's side with me in it. Pulled the tie downs right up out of the ground and they were dangling from the wire straps. Scared the bejeezes out of me! It knocked the wall out of my barn and my mare was trying to foal when it hit. She did not have the foal for another 2 days it scared her so badly!

I suppose you can have tie downs put on your coops but if it were me I would relocate the chickens to another part of the farm. The top of an open hill is just not safe. I hate trudging up and down my small hill but I set the barn and most of my chickens down on the back part of my land. The breezes are up here but so are the severe winds. Remember when the April storm blew over my dog pen with my chickens in it? That was almost on top of the hill. Crazy of me to put them there.

Just relocate the pens to another part of your farm and you will be fine. With that much land I am sure you have many wonderful spots to have a nice chickeneering spot.

On a more positive note, we believe they have captured the man that stole my car! I can't find any photos of the car but he was caught in Taylors after getting out and running at a traffic stop. I am anxiously awaiting a phone call from the cops about my car!

It was on the News last night and in the papers today but they give so little info. It fits everything and the area he stole the car is right.

How terrible! I hope everyone is okay and she finds all the birds!

I saw the storms going down that way but we got nothing here but some breezes.
Her coops looked to be pretty heavy. It must have been one dickens of a storm to knock anything over. Poor little Silkies are defenseless in the best of weather. I can't imagine them in a bad storm!

Those coops looked heavy, and they were well made & HUGE. One 10x10 is completely shattered.

one of the coop walls was in the pond! She lost more than one coop. And her kitty is missing also.

She did find one hen this morning! Maybe more will wander up, unharmed.

Susanne - I think I would be rethinking building too. Scary! Although, you can always get one of those inground shelters

Maybe build on a different part of the farm?

ETA: My house sits on the downside of a hill......I have a basement thanks to that!
