Roosters make me happy too. I love to hear the crowing, music to my ears. I have a pet silkie, Chicken Noodle, who follows me around and dances for me. He is spoiled.

I love that name! So cute!!

Redbug, you are going to have to let us know what you decide to put in your new pen!

I recently got a new pen from CL and set it up under a shade tree for some Silkies. I have 4 girls (3 new, one old and used) and a new roo from Kimberly. I named him Flash the Splash! He is a funny boy. Never misses a meal and takes the girls to bed at night, which I was having a hard time with before he came to live with them.

And one of my crates that I finally finished except that I want to put legs on it. Thank you Kimberly and Nicole for painting for me!
I open the door to retrieve eggs. If I didn't have a LGD I would put a screen door on the open doorway.

Considering that I occasionally add apple cider vinegar to the chicken drinkers and they don't seem to mind, I doubt the vinegar solution would keep them away from your plants. I've fenced in my garden to keep the chickens out but ended up putting my 2 geese in there anyway. Then I had to go around the beds with wire to keep the geese out of the vegetables. They managed to reach in and eat a squash plant anyway.

Haha Yep it surely didn't work

Eventually they'll get bored and move on!

I WISH I could keep my rooster

I thought maybe I could keep him a while before he crowed and yesterday morning when I walked onto the patio he stood up on my patio furniture and let out a muffled cock-a-doodle-doo!! 3 Times!

Hahaha as cute as it was I don't want him to do that. I suppose there is no way around it so now I will have to rehome him. I was changing his name from Beauty (original thought to be girl name) to Lancelot. I tell you what though... it was the sweetest little crow.

That's aweful about your doggy. It definately sounds like a nest might be nearby~ maybe try a few snake traps around the property? Hope he pulls through ok. And glad you did get another pen set up!

Was not bad this morning when I went for a 4 mile walk at 6:30 and was looking forward to the rest of today after my shower. However, after spending the past hour and half in the coops and pens, cleaning feeders and waterers and putting out fresh shavings, I"m off for shower #2 and have decided the heat is definitely back!
